The Christmas Tree and the dogs!

Last year we didn’t put up our Christmas tree since we had recently lost our dog Dallas and my childhood friend was dying of cancer.  I asked my husband to put the tree up on his day off on Tuesday and thought I would be nice and decorate the Christmas tree while my husband was at work today and surprise him. I was a bit worried about our two dogs having never had a Christmas tree in their house before, but they just watched me and looked on curiously as I turned on the Christmas music and got started.  Soon they were sleeping in the sun and didn’t care what I was doing.  It took me only 3 ½ hours to get everything done and clean up too, not bad for doing it myself, don’t you think?!  I sat down and enjoyed the music a little while more and looked at the beautiful tree.  Let me tell you a little about our tree, it is made up of all teddy bear ornaments, you know, they look just like mini plush teddy bears.  Well, our fuzzy kids must have thought that they had a tree full of toys just for them.  Of course Indiana waited until I had left the room until he decided to take one of my favorite and oldest teddy bears off of the tree and eat it!  Boy, it sure didn’t take him long.  And boy, did I yell at him and tell him that the tree wasn’t to be touched and those weren’t put there for him to take one a day and eat it until Christmas Day!  I also told him that he better not get any ideas that the tree was an indoor toilet for him either!  Yikes, wouldn’t that be fun?!  Then, a little later as I was sitting at the computer, I saw my fuzzy kids out of the corner of my eye having a great time in the bedroom and thought I’d go over and see why they were having such a good time.  You got it, they had another one of my favorite and oldest teddy bears and they were playing with it together!  How cute, I wanted to kill my sweet little Coco and Indy. Okay, I have to admit that I was very scared about what my little 2 year old Coco and 1 year old Indy would think this Christmas tree was with all these wonderful toys just hanging on it for the taking, but what could I do?  I can’t put a fence around it, can I?!  And I sure wasn’t going to leave the bottom of the tree empty!  So, now I have to baby sit my tree and hope that the fuzzy kids get the idea soon!  I wish I could get our bird Phoenix to tell on them!  Happy Christmas!

I got a cat story. My cat used to eat tinsel like spaghetti, sucking it up. It eventually came out the other end...attached to um...well, you get the picture.

How funny ;-}... I had a dog once that ate my 6 1/2 ft tree lights, ornaments, tree skirt, presents and all... Good luck!!! you may think about setting the tree up in a play pen, I did that when my kids were babies...

Oh dear, I suspect you will have to move those teddies to higher branches--your kids have already developed a taste for them.

Good luck! our cat still clmbs the tree, and she's 3! She just won't stop. She thinks we put it up for her every year. This year I have a new friend. he's 5 months old. part shepard and lab. VERY HIGH ENERGY!!! I'm very afraid for my tree this year!

Sandy: Good luck with that! do what I do with the cats, keep a spray bottle of water handy for a couple of days, it's usually all it takes for them.

hi Sandra... that was sooo funny, but i felt bad for the furry bears on the tree...
i would have been very upset.... i love teddy bears...

my husband and I never had a problem with my dog (he's 3 now) but we are a bit nervous about our daughter....she's only 20 months. There will be no ornaments on the bottom foot of the tree and it is definitely getting tethered to the wall!!! lol

Sound like a lovely tree - do you have any pics? My cat loves our tree too - chewing oont the fake tree & playing with the ornaments!

Yes Jamie, I do have a lot of pictures of my Teddy Bear Christmas tree. Check out my pictures. I just bought 4 new ornaments for the tree today! : )
