I went out for a walk down to my favorite hangouts in the south end of Newport this morning, and I discovered that the Beeches have finally changed color. Hooray! Of course, the Maples have been changing for a while now, but side by side with the Beeches they look really good. I just mourn the fact that here the Oaks basically go from green to brown with no Fall color in between. Anyhow, let's go look at the Beeches.
The stand of Maples on the floor of the old quarry in Ballard Park is really going to town. Here are two shots, one from up on the quarry rim and one down at ground level.

Farther along, on the "country lane" leg of my usual hike, we come to the old Beeches along the stone wall on the Brenton Rd. end of Hammersmith Rd.

Off behind this row of Beeches is a stand of brilliant red Maples:

And looking up the road toward the crest of the hill we see this mix of Maples and Beeches:

A little way up the road at the intersection of Hammersmith Rd. and Beacon Hill Rd. is this Paper Birch by yet another stone wall:

And at the crest of the hill on Beacon Hill Rd. is this magnificent old Beech:

And last but not least, this Japanese Ornamental Maple in a front yard on Harrison Ave. as we head back downtown:

Okay, that's enough walking. Time to settle in to Thanksgiving festivities. Enjoy!
