A few years back, someone asked me to name a Thanksgiving song. I was not prepared for that and, quite frankly, couldn't think of one.
Feeling compelled to come up with one, even long after it was too late to respond to the questioner, I pondered over it. Hours later I thought that I had finally come up with one, albeit I didn't know the song title and had only a vague recollection of some of the lyrics.
It wasn't until about a couple of weeks later that I found it on one of my audio CDs. Okay, definitely not a Thanksgiving tune - more of a Christmas song. The title? A Merry Christmas at Grandmother's.
Okay, for those who know this song, can you see where I might have been confused?
Anyway, does anyone know of a Thanksgiving song? I suspect that this will be a very short list.

The First Thanksgiving
Barbara Speicher
Pilgrims left their homeland on the Mayflower ship.
From the Church of England, they wanted to split.
Some sought grand adventure, and some needed work.
They were all determined and from danger did not shirk.
Chorus:
First Thanksgiving; oh, praises give voice.
First Thanksgiving; oh, people rejoice!
First Thanksgiving; oh, praises give voice.
First Thanksgiving; oh, people rejoice!
Storms made them seasick, and the main beam cracked.
Tightly crowded, they ate salt horse and hardtack.
They reached Plymouth Rock, fulfilling all their dreams.
But, then winter came with bitter cold and suffering.
Chorus
Food was scarce and many died;
How could they stay alive?.....
Chorus
Feasting altogether, they thanked God for ev'rything.....
Chorus
…Oh, people rejoice! Give thanks
