As we head into tomorrow's celebration of Thanksgiving, I think this quote is so appropriate. Joseph Addison once said, "There is nothing that makes its way more directly into the soul than beauty."
We have so much to be thankful for, and beauty all around us if we just take a few seconds to look for it. My husband and I went on a cruise vacation, just the two of us, last week. The islands in the Caribbean are just gorgeous, with their vibrant plant life and gorgeous clear waters! The ship itself is a wonder, decorated with creativity by skilled artisans. But you never need to go abroad to find beauty around you.
I find beauty in the quiet breathing of my children as I check on them before I turn in for the night. In our puppy's big brown eyes. In our older, faithful dog's greying muzzle as she snuggles close for a pat on the head. In photos of my loved ones who have gone before me, who I hope to see again the hereafter. In the love my family members have for each other, through good times and bad.
Yes, we are truly blessed, and when I sit down and think about all that I have to thank God for, not just at Thanksgiving but all year round, it often overwhelms me.
May you have a safe and happy holiday, celebrating with friends and family. Happy Thanksgiving!
