Progress in the Kitchen

Finally, a little order in the kitchen - the most important part of home, right?   No, maybe that would be the bed, where you crash every night after unpacking boxes and working.  I'm certainly not showing you my bed - yet.

Two pics of the cooking area and the soaring beams, which I love..............I didn't want you to be thinking I was a layabout, after all.

 

 

 

To those Gatherers who are getting ready to travel for Thanksgiving, my blessings that you have a safe and swift journey. And me? I'm happy to be trying out the new kitchen right here, with my family.

Katrina - This is a gorgeous kitchen - I'm so jealous! It's beautiful, well-organized and will be fun to hang around - I see you even have a bookcase for your cookbooks! Love it and love the beams as well. Have a great Thanksgiving cooking in your new kitchen! Salud.

You have a gorgeous kitchen! I'm totally jealous! My kitchen is so tiny and there's very little counter space. It makes it hard to prepare Thanksgiving dinner, but I manage.

Hi Jill - maybe this is what I get after most of my life in a galley kitchen. The house may be a little chilly, but with a kitchen like this, I think I could get inspired. I certainly HOPE I get inspired. All in good time, I guess. Many thanks for taking a look!

oh, how delightful, Joan! It must be wonderful to look up and see the beams.....I love the interiors of houses when they're being built because all the beams and rafters are showing. I was always a little sorry to see them being covered up, in the traditional framing and sheetrocking.

Nice kitchen. It must be hard getting used to a new kitchen. I've been in the same house for 33 years.

Hi Marian - it's tough getting used to new houses every few years - before I was divorced, I was in the same kitchen for 13 years, that's my personal record for staying in one place. I really hate moving, and I envy you your 33 years in the same place. At least I have a roof over my head, as I remind myself very often when I get cranky.

Yup... it's a new kitchen all right. I can still see sections of that fridge... Mine is covered top to bottom by the grandkids' artwork :-)

Soon to come, I'm sure - she's only 21 months! Those pictures on the fridge are of her and my two kids. I can't find my usual fridge stick ups - Julia Child, the Dalai Lama, my father and step, random pages from magazines..............recipes. You have a great Turkey Day!

Ah, Faith - no herbs here ( yet) - I'll have to go dig them at the old place in the Spring - but yes, herbs, flying dragons, banners and flags - who knows?

Thanks, Sonia! It really was a crazy day, but I was thrilled it worked out beautifully -

Hey Risa - oh yes. Ohhhhh, yes. The dishes were piled up to there, but it was kind of soothing to plow through the stack and tidy up. Great food! My daughter made roasted squash and sweet potatoes, my son made 2 delicious apple pies, plus some homemade stuffing, my daughter made a wicked loaf of bread, and friend Ana from Vermont brought a terrific pumpkin pie and brussel sprouts.

Thanks, Mme D! I was too exhausted to do much more than the turkey and the potatoes ( always popular) I forgot to buy nuts for the nut bowl, though I did find the nutcracker! Small triumphs! But we had a great time - and you?

Katrina, I had a wonderful time in Boston for my holiday, thanks. I ate myself silly in several places, visited family, met Tom and another Gatherer and all-in-all had a great time. I'll be back in that area before too long and I'm hoping to stay a bit longer and get out of the greater Boston area for part of that visit.
