Just as a painting needs light and shadow
To be a masterpiece
We need both love and sadness
To make our lives complete.
Without gray days of Autumn
Preceeding the winter's snow
The colors would seem less brilliant
When sunshine spreads its glow.
God sends us all some shadows
So we can better see the light
He knows we need some shades of gray
To balance the sunshine bright.
Life is truly like a painting
Light and shadow, night and day
In order to be a masterpiece
It must have some shades of gray.
