My Christmas Questionnaire/Answers

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Egg Nog w/ rum LOL

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Both

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? White

4. Do you hang mistletoe? Yes

5. When do you put up your decorations? Day after thanksgiving as of last year.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish? Homemade tamales (I am of Mexican decent) but for all of the rest of you if it must be something you all know it would have to be Baked Ham on the bone or Cornish Hens

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? My Dad coming home in time for Christmas from Viet Nam in 1971. 

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I was pretty old as my Mom and Dad kept it a secret forever and also that of the tooth fairy...lol!

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? We traditionally open our gifts after Midnight Mass which is really Christmas actually.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? Some years with red and gold balls, some years with turquoise balls and decor and this year it will be with all gold and leopard balls with leopard tree skirt and stockings.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? Love it!!

12. Can you ice skate? No not any more but at 12-13 we had a lake that would freeze over across the street from our house in Ansbach, Germany that we would ice skate on.  These days I do well just walking.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? An easy bake oven and my Chatty Cathy doll.

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you? My family and remembering the birth of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Pumpkin pie with whipped cream.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Ours is having a homemade tamale making party with hor d'ovres, champagne, family, friends and music.

17. What tops your tree? Some years a star, others an Angel.

18. Which do you prefer giving or receiving? I always derive more pleasure from giving but its always nice to recieve.

19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? The little drummer boy song.

20. Candy Canes? Yes? No? Color? Candie Canes for all in red and white but not on my tree.

21. Do you feel Christmas is too commercialized? YES, and can't they wait until November to start??

I am enjoying reading these responses from everyone. I love tamales too. There is an old woman that comes around our neighborhood selling tamales before Christmas. I can't wait until she does this year.

Sue - We make pork roast ones shredded, chicken ones with tomatillo sauce, bean ones with hot sauce and raisin ones which are sweet and sugared. These are traditionally the ones made but know that there are some that make different ones than what we do. Also Puerto Rican people make their own different type of tamale wrapped in banana leaves, and other latin american countries have their versions as well.

I haven't decided yet. My ex has all of the Christmas stuff I'd purchased-- oddly enough, he was never into decorating for the holiday, but he kept the stuff?-- so I may hit the dollar store next weekend and see what my options are. The boy and I will be at my parents for the holiday but I can't resist decorating here too. :)

Apryl - Got your gmail but have been so darn busy today with Gather and my phone ringing off of the wall and visitors and the like so haven't had a chance to help you out on that but rest assured that I will later this evening or first thing manana ok amiga??

Corinna - Do you have a Garden Ridge store where you live? They have anything and everything and in all color schemes but you must get there asap because by mid December they run out of everything except the bare trees, lol!! Their prices are really good too!!

Yea, I know about the exes keeping things they have no use for out of sheer spite it seems so I know all about it my dear. Of course what is the price of replacing those things just to be rid of him anyway? It seems its worth the cost sometimes; or at least in my case it was worth leaving everything I owned except for my clothes behind just to be rid of the wife beating abuser that he was. Thank God I lived to tell about it and for being rid of him...

Carmel - Yes the Chatty Cathy doll and I still have her albeit with no clothes and a broken string but plan on taking her to a doll restorer this year here in Dallas that not only can fix the string so that she can talk again but can recreate her original dress as well. Now ain't that special??

Why did you think she was spooky? Because she could talk or because of her weird looking blue eyes?? Now that I think of it she is a bit on the freaky looking side, lol!!

Kathy - I used to bake little tiny cakes for my Granddaddy to eat with his coffee and boy did I spoil him with those! He used to ask me to bake them for him quite often in those days. We were living with him and my Grandmom while my Dad was either in Korea or Viet Nam during the war so Mom and my siblings and I lived with them for a short while.

Your sister got a Chatty Cathy and you don't know why because she had you?? Silly girl! Is she that much older than you or is it just because you're chatty like me?? lol!

Thats cool about the cornish hens! We usually stuff ours with wild rice; what do you stuff yours with?? I would love to hear or would love to have your recipe. One can never have too many good recipes for their favorite things, now can we??

What are you doing for Thanksgiving hon?? I will try to call you in the next couple of days.

Diane - We make nice and thin masa on the corn shell but plenty of meat in them. Mom says that not to do so is being stingy...lol!! Mom's recipe is delicious, not too spicy, not too hot, and just right! We usually make some that aren't too spicy for the folks who can't handle the hot stuff!

It is already feeling better. I was able to eat some mashed taters with gravy last night.

There will be lots of soft food for me to eat there. I just won't gain as many holiday pounds as usual this year.

Apryl - I was serious about those tamales. Where do you live by the way?? I will definately get to you on your email later tonight or in the am. I just got back in and am now expecting more company but my cousin thinks that 12 midnight is five or six pm. She was supposed to have dropped by last night and ended up waking me up at 2:45 am to let me know she wasn't going to make it after all...crazy broad!

Stephanie - Every year when I go to midnight mass to celebrate the birth of Christ I cry. Why you might ask? Because of the thought that this beautiful being was born and brought onto this Earth for our salvation and only for that reason and if that isn't enough to cry about then nothing is. Christmas is a beautiful celebration and if only we could all learn to love one another and have Peace on earth and good will towards our fellow man I know that I would be the happiest person in the world but unfortunately I don't think that I will see that day in my lifetime at least.

Karen - Our tamales are full of meet thin with not too much masa on the cornshuck and are delicious! Come on over and have some homemade ones at our tamale making party. It will be something that you will never forget plus all of the champagne and wine that we drink during is fun too!!
