Have you ever heard of the Swabian Alb? Probably not. It is a plateau in southern Germany, in the state of Baden Württemberg. At its highest points it is about 3000 ft - and that is plenty high for winter to have arrived!
Today I went to visit a boarding school that is up on the Alb (not Alps!), and there was simple beauty to be seen!
I was up early and left Stuttgart just after sunrise.
There was an early mist over frozen fields.
Arriving at the school, which is up on the Alb (not Alps!) we went inside quickly. There was snow and ice on the ground, and it was very cold!
Just inside, the length of the hallway, there they were! Beautiful windows!

There was much talking and meeting with teachers. By the time we left it was afternoon and the sun had come out. Sun on snow. Glorious! Let me show you.
Red berries in the snow.
I walked a little way over a meadow.
Trees full of snow.

Snow up close...
Every little branch is snowy.
Look up at a brilliant sky!
The sun disappears early behind the mountains.
On the way home, back on the plain, I caught the sunset.
There is beauty everywhere, if we will but look for it. Thank you for sharing it with me!

Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful!
Such beautiful photographs. There is one you should frame, of the snow on the red berries. It would also make a lovely note card. Thank you for sharing them.
the stained glass is soooo lovely... and the snow and sun...great job...
These pictures are beautiful. The stained glass is magnificent.
Again-I am homesick!!!!! I live at roughly 3000ft. And I look around and see similar things in the distance- snow is coming here soon too!!! Oh how I long for Wien..and Salzburg. Imagine that!
I love the Grand Doms. They truly are inspiring. The statues and windows are absolutly beautiful. I think back on Sankt Stephens Dom- and all the beauty in it. I really muss go home again...there is such an ache in my heart as I long for it. You know- once Wien bites you- you're stuck- never the same again!
The fotographieren are truly Schoern! I really enjoy seeing them- they bring back so many great memories.
bis denn!
Wolfgang
But I have no windows like those ... they are beautiful ! Thanks for the trip, I loved it.
I've spent years n Germany North and South. I loved being there regardless of the season...but Winter has its own wonderful charm.
I always thought that how can one enjoy Spring if one hasn't lived through Winter?
Your photos and your words were pure poetry and you made me (us) feel as if we were there.
I loved those stained glass windows. They seemed to be so happy. Bravo dear.
Although I only like snow for one day: christmas.
There is beauty everywhere, if we will but look for it...
Thanks!!
Ich mag Schnee auf Bildern lieber als in Wirklichkeit.
I personally like snow best when I'm inside, with the heater on, looking out at it. But this was too lovely to pass up!
Actually these are meadows where cows roam in the summer (the real kind, that eat grass, not the purple ones that make chocolate...
Thank you all for stopping by to admire the snow (in this painless, warm way!).
My birthday [yes, 59 today] gift to you is a "10"! :-)
Blessings
