Nature Conservancy..everyone's responsibility

Thank-you, Debbie, for this link... I, too, appreciate seeing the things that "unite" us rather than "divide" us in this world...

I love the Nature Conservancy - all that they do to preserve the wild places on this planet, and the integrity with which they run their organization.

The Nature Conservancy is one of my favorite organizations because of what Tonia notes about it. After they do all the base work to preserve an ecosystem, they usually let a local group manage it.

Cashless ways to contribute to NC or other charitable organizations. I recently contributed to NC by donating some of the points I accumulated on an American Express credit account to NC on AMEX's Internet site. I plan to close this account and wanted to see about using the points for something. I was pleased I could use them to contribute to a charity. I also recently gave all my 77,000 UA frequent flyer miles to Conservation International. I'm planning to check out more charitable giving through other point accumulations I have.

It's hard to find a group like this who actually does what they say they do. Thanks for the link.

This is one of my favorite organizations Papa and I belong to...they DO what they SAY they do... a rare thing in this world today.

Thank you for pointing out the positives......as we near the Day of Thanksgiving we need to dwell on all that is good around us and work toward erasing or trying to make a dent in the bad.....

Thanks for mentioning The Nature Conservancy, Deb. We have a lot of TNC-preserved land here in RI, and they just bought a huge 970 acre estate in the Pawcatuck Borderlands on the RI/CT border. It's a diverse ecosystem and a beautiful area indeed, and TNC had first rights of refusal on the property and managed to match the price offered by an out-of-state developer. So another wonderful tract of untouched nature has been saved from the bulldozer!

There's a similar, local thing going on down here on Aquidneck Island, as well. It's called the Aquidneck Island Land Trust, and has the same goal of preserving green space. Much of the area where I love to hang out around Gooseneck Cove is Land Trust property. Plus they're well on the way to creating a greenway that goes from the Norman Bird Sanctuary all the way to the north tip of the island in Portsmouth. I can't wait until it's done, and I can guarantee you I'll be one of the first to walk the whole thing, camera in hand!
