Okay, so I don't hate ALL movies... I actually enjoy musicals - and Hairspray is definitely a musical....although I imagine a whole lot of young uns might not consider the sort of songs in this to actually be music. Too bad for them.
Story line is pretty basic - plump teenager Tracy Turnblad - played by Nicole Blonsky (in her first ever movie appearance) wins a spot on a local (all white except for the once monthly 'Negro Day') .... makes connections with the black dancers...and after significant resistance from the beautiful-on-the-outside-only white villain.... everyone ends up happily-integrated-ever-after.... well, not everyone is happy about it... but the people that matter are.
Hairspray includes a whole lot of singing, dancing and humour, and is just a whole lot of fun..... I watched it right to the end of the credits cuz I was enjoying the music.... might have to download the soundtrack for this one.

I tend not to pay much attention to actors --- I DON'T LIKE MOVIES, remember!
Was thinking I might just buy myself the soundtrack, Andrea... IF it includes the cootie song (that was at the end of the credits) LOL
did you ever see the original?
Don't think the live show has played in Toronto since I started going to them, either... I would likely buy tickets for it if it did now.
but I like books :)
Not to like music, sports or movies- bad, bad, bad! LOL
Travolta, and I bet the music is great. Thanks for the review Flit, you made it sound inviting to me,
