I got this one from paper back swap back in the summer and I LOVE IT! Sarita and I have been enjoying a different smoothie almost every day and so far they've all been fantastic. What a great way to get fruit and sometimes calcium in our diets. A bonus is they're actually healthy.
All the recipes are easy to make and call for just a few ingredients. Place
them in the blender and in seconds you have a delicious, nutritious, frothy
drink that sometimes has to be eaten with a spoon.
Some of the ones we've tried so far are Frosted Strawberry Smoothie,
Strawberry Colada Smoothie, Strawberry Romanoff Smoothie, Fuzzy Navel
Smoothie and Tri-Fruit Smoothie. I made so many this summer, too many to mention them all and I have so many more marked to try.
There is even a chapter called Blender Bonuses, with recipes for other things
you can make in the blender. Sarita made the Pimiento Cheddar Cheese Dip and
it was good but a bit more mayonnaise than we like. If we make it again we'll
just use less mayo.
Some of the smoothies we've made call for Diet Mt. Dew and since neither of us
care for Mt Dew we subbed diet 7 up instead and they were delicious. Some of
the smoothies call for yogurt, some skim or soy milk and some fat free ice
cream in addition to either fresh or frozen fruit.
If you like smoothies don't miss this book. I know this is one that won't
spend much time on the shelf here.
Frosted Strawberry Smoothie
There are so many luscious shades of pink, every one of them pleasurable, and
every one reminds me of my favorite heavenly fruit, the strawberry. Here's a
charming way to celebrate its glories in icy splendor, one that I know will
appeal to my son Tommy!
serves 2 (1 1/2 cups)
1 cup cold unsweetened orange juice
1/2 cup cold Diet Mountain Dew
1/4 cup Splenda Granular
2 cups frozen unsweetened strawberries
1/2 cup crushed ice
In a blender container, combine OJ, Diet Mt. Dew, and Splenda. Cover and
process on BLEND for 10 seconds. Add strawberries. Re-cover and process on
BLEND for 30 seconds. Add ice. Re-cover and process on BLEND for 15 to 20
seconds or until mixture is smooth. Evenly pour into 2 glasses. Serve at once.
Each serving equals:
HE 2 Fruit; 12 optional calories
136 calories; 0 gm fat; 1 gm protein; 33 mg carb; 13 mg sodium; 45 mg calcium;
5 gm fiber
Diabetic Exchanges 2 fruit
I figured the weight watcher points to be 2.
We like tart smoothies so I usually just use one packet of sweetener instead
of the whole amount called for.

Thanks for the comment Mo. I think this is a cookbook I could probably make every recipe.
