1. I am pro-life. Sorry but I think it's wrong to kill your own child because it's inconvenient for you to have it now.
So, if I get raped tomorrow, I should hold on to it? I may have lived a past life, I may have even been an aborted fetus, who knows, but if where I was was not a perfect fit for me, God put me somewhere special. My family has a long history of lupus (Mom's got it, sister's got it, brother-in-law's got it, and I should probably be tested). Mom's pregnancy with me was very difficult, and we could have both been lost. We were both lucky. I do not plan to have children, but if I get raped I am not going to risk my life or the life of the child either.
2. I respect the President of the United States.
He's only human just like my father, and my mother, and everyone else. I was out for lunch with my Dad today, as a matter of fact. We've had a long and very rough history. Today we got along well, tomorrow we may not, the day after we may reconcile. I respect my father for the PERSON HE IS, not for the role he plays in anyone's life. God put him in my life for a reason, and he put me in his life for a reason. We never had a particularly warm and loving Daddy-daughter thing going on, but we did have a great time today. If I just had blind respect for him (or what I call blind respect) because he happens to be my father, it would be fear and worshipping someone I fear because I don't know better. Instead I stepped back from all that, took a GOOD LONG LOOK AT THE MAN HE IS, and realized that he has A LOT of good qualities I like, and THAT is what I am going to respect!!!! Do I respect GWB just because he's the President? Nope!! Do I respect you? Yes!! It's not the position people hold, it's who the people ARE. I am lucky enough to have family members whom I love and respect as human beings even if, as in the case of my father and I, that relationship has been a roller-coaster.
3. I love my country right or wrong.
And I love my father, right or wrong. Refer to my above comment.
4. I think parents should be licensed.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been saying this for most of my life.
5. I think Credit Cards are an evil to be done away with.
Yup!! That's why I have a debit card with the Bank of America. If I need to use a credit card I use that, and it pays itsself off from the money I put into my BOA account. I wish we had debit cards with credit card affiliations here in Canada.
6. You're a jerk if you believe your kid who tells you "The teacher doesn't like me."
OK we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one. My grade 5 teacher was verbally abusive to me. This was the same year my parents broke up. My mother ALWAYS believed me, because she knew I was always honest. When a teacher was just a teacher she knew that was life, and told me that, but she ALWAYS KNEW when something was REALLY wrong...and there WERE times when the teacher really didn't like me. It depends on the honesty of the child, and the faith (in that child's honesty) of the parent. I'm glad my mother knew how to tell what was really going on.
7. I think people who are jealous of other members of Gathers because they get more points for publishing games need to be in the market for a new life.
YUP!!!!
8. You're children will be gone in the blink of an eye, so be patient, and have a sense of humor.
And so will your parents!! This is the first year without Mormor and Morfar (Danish for Mom's Mom and Mom's Dad). Mormor died in '04. and Morfar died in '07. Today would have been their 66th wedding anniversary.
9. People who leave their dogs outside are heartless. Dogs are love machines that need you more than food and shelter.
YUP!!!!!!!!! My sister and I will both agree with you on this one.
10. I don't hate you or anyone else. Hate is fear and extreme dislike. We use the word to freely.
RIGHT AGAIN!!!!!! You are entitled to your opinion, I am entitled to mine, and that's why I took the time to express my opinion on every one of your 10 points. I don't expect (or want) you to change, and I won't either, but if you're in town, I still think we should get together for coffee.
well..I'm not going there.. let's just say I agree with you personally that killing your child is wrong, I could never do it, would never even think about it for a second, and I would never advocate it for anyone else.. I'm just not sure it's my place to decide what others do with their life and their body.
2. I respect the President of the United States.
I respect the office :O)
3. I love my country right or wrong.
Me too.. God Bless America!
4. I think parents should be licensed.
I get what you're saying.. I agree. They should at least have to pass a basic parenting skills test or something.
5. I think Credit Cards are an evil to be done away with.
I sorta agree. Well, I don't think they should be done away with, they're sometimes a necessity. I just think people should be educated as to the cost of credit. Maybe there should be a limit to how much credit you can have or something..so many dollars per so many dollars of income. I had a fist full of them at one point, til it got to the point where I had to use them to buy everything because I had to use all my cash to pay my credit cards, and could only afford the minimum payments. It was terrible. That's why I only have a debit card now, and if I can't pay for it, I don't get it. Makes life so much less stressful.
6. You're a jerk if you believe your kid who tells you "The teacher doesn't like me."
That's not necessarily true. It depends on the kid and the circumstances. Some kids may cause trouble and not do their work or whatever and blame it on the teacher not liking them, but teachers are only human and if they can have a "teacher's pet", and we all know they do exist, they can certainly have students that rub them the wrong way, and being human they may genuinely treat that child badly because they just don't like them. My 6th grade teacher had several pets that got special privileges and they were his buddies, but there were several kids in the class he obviously didn't like and he actually made fun of one of them regularly in front of the class. You just have to check in to the situation to know which is really the case LOL
7. I think people who are jealous of other members of Gathers because they get more points for publishing games need to be in the market for a new life.
lol sooo true..and funny
8. You're children will be gone in the blink of an eye, so be patient, and have a sense of humor.
Sadly, very true.. they do grow up fast.
9. People who leave their dogs outside are heartless. Dogs are love machines that need you more than food and shelter.
I totally agree with you here. I hate it when people mistreat an animal, and I don't see why someone would get a dog and then leave it chained all alone in the yard.. makes my blood boil! I can see leaving them out during the day if nobody is home and you have to work, as long as they have food and shelter and stuff to keep them occupied, but leaving them outside all the time and rarely if ever letting them inside to be part of the family and be loved and played with is just cruel and wrong.
10. I don't hate you or anyone else. Hate is fear and extreme dislike. We use the word to freely.
I agree.. hate is a very strong word and I don't hate anyone. There are very few people I even dislike intensely .. :O)
If I were to write this, I'd have said, "I respect the office of the President of the United States."
Basically I agree with you - this should not be a form of birth control. But I think there may be extenuating circumstances where it may mean the life or death of the mother.
2. I respect the President of the United States.
The office, not the man.
3. I love my country right or wrong.
yup!
4. I think parents should be licensed.
or committed! After seeing your explanation, I agree to an extent - but we all have to learn at some point. A license wouldn't necessarily guarantee that. I believe the schools have dropped an important aspect by not having home economics, life skills, etc. anymore. I remember having to make reports on 'bringing baby home,' etc. in 9th grade.
5. I think Credit Cards are an evil to be done away with.
I like the debit ones. Sometimes there are just things you can't do without one (which I believe is wrong - but its how it is).
6. You're a jerk if you believe your kid who tells you "The teacher doesn't like me."
As others have said - this varies. You know your child and know when they are pulling your leg. There are parents that believe no matter what the evidence or circumstances their child is right. This is not always the case. And yes, we all remember the teachers pets!!!!
7. I think people who are jealous of other members of Gathers because they get more points for publishing games need to be in the market for a new life.
ditto
8. You're children will be gone in the blink of an eye, so be patient, and have a sense of humor.
Agree. And parents, aunts, uncles, etc.
9. People who leave their dogs outside are heartless. Dogs are love machines that need you more than food and shelter.
My dog likes to spend time outside. But we are in the country and we don't chain him. When he wants in he lets us know and he comes in. When he wants out we let him out. He also has a very nice, warm, stuffed with straw and a doggy bed, dog house.
He is mad at me right now - deer season (and he wants to know what everyone in the neighborhood is doing) - I make him wear an orange vest when he goes out!!! He hates it. Sometimes he can get it snagged on the barb wire fence next door and get out of it - but I just go get it and put it back on - he hates it!!!!
10. I don't hate you or anyone else. Hate is fear and extreme dislike. We use the word to freely.
I really don't hate anyone or anything - but I do find myself using that word. Have been working on it. Have noticed my grandkids using it a lot and we are all working on it together. That and 'I'm gonna kill' someone.
I think a lot of the db1s on Gather are based on the subject material of an article, not the article itself. Now, that is an example of ignorance, not hatred. There is definitely a lot of ignorance in this world.
Parenting classes? Absolutely. Licenses, no.
Credit cards? Limit one.
Any form of cruelty to animals is repugnant.
And I'll keep quiet on the rest.
I agree most with #9 I have "adopted" pets who have been neglected. No dogs yet, but when I get a place of my own you can bet I'll have dogs! I'm hoping to adopt a greyhound from the race tracks the way some of them are treated is disgusting.
The one I disagree with most is #1 I am pro choice, and while I agree that abortion should not be used as birth control it is still the womans choice. Further more since I had a friend who was raped, and took the morning after pill (which didn't work) and had to get an abortion I don't think it is cowardice to hide behind the excuse of "what if." When what if has happened. Not to mention the morning after pill is a form of abortion it kills the sperm that has already attached to the egg creating life.
But none of these opinions are reasons to hate you Carol. They are what make the world interesting.
