“A disability is simply a limitation or barrier that one may or may not choose to overcome – what holds you back?”
“Whether short term or permanent – a disability does not stop people from wanting to do that which they enjoy.”
“Greater achievements become possible when we remove the obstacles to our true potential”

My nephew Michael was in a motorcycle accident many years ago. He is an avid hunter and sportsman. He hunts with both bow and arrow and guns.
You may not have noticed because you've been admiring his turkey, that he is sitting in a wheelchair.
The photo shows his big catch for Thanksgiving dinner a few years ago. When I asked for permission to use this photo he mentioned that today is the transition day from bow and arrow to guns so he was going to be in the woods as soon as he finishes work.
The above quotes are from him.

When I suggested I mention his business, he agreed:
Michael is the owner of Compliance Alliance - a Virginia based facility management consulting firm specializing in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility compliance.
Michael’s ideal goal would be to use his knowledge, experience, and skills to provide his services to guides and outfitters throughout the US and Canada in an effort to increase the opportunities for people with disabilities to fully experience and truly enjoy the natural splendor this land has to offer.

If you are or know someone with disabilities that might be interested in this information. Please send it on.
Happy Thanksgiving.

How big was it? It looks huge!
and Wow, that is one big Turkey!!
I am an avid sportsman who enjoys the great outdoors, a member of the Charlottesville Cardinals wheelchair basketball team, The National Wheelchair Pool-players Association, and The National Wild Turkey Federation Wheelin' Sportsmen. When I am not advocating in the boardroom, or participating in one of the many sports or recreational opportunities available to people with disabilities today, I am diligently at work within the community… advocating for change.
And oh, thanks for the eye candy ;>
Your nephew is an inspiration! And you are right- I didn't notice the wheel chair.
Good article for Thanksgiving. Would you please pass this on to Michael?
Terrific attitude Michael! I've met many disabled Vets (like myself) over the years since Viet Nam. The biggest and most important thing I have learned over the years is that attitude is half the battle of living disabled. Hang in there ... keep plugging away at it ... and encourage others as you go. It can be very rewarding.
Thanks, Marilyn and Michael!

ALL great quotes!! What a cool nephew you have!!!
I also appreciate the privlege of responsible hunting...(I just can't participate in it now a days.)...if people were aware of the conservationist in each hunter,fisherman/woman these sports would grow in support instead of languishing . Our natural world will be forfeited to the techno-world. People have to get out side and "interface" with the nature right outside their door otherwise there will be no appreciation for pure water, clean air, healthy ,thriving forests and the living creatures that inhabit all of these various eco systems. One is more inclined to fight for that green patch of "wild" in the neighborhood if intuned to it and utilizing it for natural forms of recreation (hiking, hunting, fishing ,camping) than if totally oblivious to it and not realizing the healthy benefits of our interaction with the outdoors. Those open spaces will more easily fall to development if no body cares.
Thank you for this wonderful article. I wish your nephew must success and good health!
