Are we there yet?
This may be the most asked question on the planet. Every child when on a trip even if it is a 5 minute run to the store asks this question. They are anxious to know how much long it will be until the destination is reached.
We don't say this as adults, but we often feel the anticipation of a goal or an event and we count down the years, months, days and minutes until we are there yet.
When we decide to get married and set a date as the day grows nearer it is ever on our minds as to how close we are to the magical day when we will reach that destination and become a new person to the world, exchanging vows to forever be Mr. and Mrs. Then a new day dawns and we realize that our journey has really just begun.
Days dwindle by, children are born, houses are bought. Promotions and raises and anniversaries are marked. Children grow up and leave home and then the house is quieter. Children get married and have their own homes. Grandchildren arrive and it is a joyous time to hold babies again and be a hero to beloved children. Anxiously we check our savings and pensions and wonder are we there yet to retire.
Retirement comes and we enjoy our free time. We may struggle with illnesses or bodies that are wearing out. Death seems to be nearby us each day as we get older. The question is the same but the emotion of it is different as we face our own demise, Are we there yet?

Are We There Yet?
Since I became a christian I don't view my death as a bad thing. It is the last time my body may have to bear pain. I will leave my loved ones and my life, but I will be joining my loved ones who have passed before me and I will be starting my new eternal life. God knows the hour and the day that will be my last. I have no desire to know. I live my life as best I can and none of us know how long we will have.
As we age we do think about death more. It becomes more of a reality to us as friends and loved ones die and we find that we are now the older generation. My Grandparents are gone, my parents are gone and in time I will be gone. When you are young unless you are facing a serious disease, life is a large life/bank account of time. When I was young life seemed to pass so slowly. A summer was a lifetime. As life went by, time seemed to go quicker and quicker each year.
If you are still young decide your goals and desires and commit what it takes to do them. If you don't, before you know it, time will pass and you will be saying where did the time go? If you haven't made up your mind about where you are spending eternity, realise that there is no guarrantees on this planet. You may not have time to put off considering a decision, as there is no way of knowing. when it comes to the end of our lives, Are We There Yet?

I can tell you put a lot of thought into it
I can also tell you put a lot of yourself into it as well
God bless, see ya on the other side
I think the only thing I dread about the future is getting to the place where time stands still. When there is no one left in our world that we can be enriched by, and who we can enrich. I fear sitting and stagnating. Lonliness. A time when no one cares. I want to be alert and alive right up to the point where I step through the doorway into the next life God has in store for me.
You get to the heart of the matter and put a positive spin on it. I enjoyed reading this.
Lisa, that is how I knew it was time to let Nan go. Her body was here but her heart was largely on the other side. She was ready. I wasn't but I knew it would be wrong to make her feel guilty for staying. So I told her I loved her and that I would really miss her when the time came and just enjoyed her as long as I had her. She will be gone 8 years in Jan and I miss her every day of my life.
You have such a way with words and I really admire you!
Thanks!
