Hello everyone. I just have to rant a bit. I have been having serious back/hip/left leg troubles since February. It all started on a regular day at work. I was getting up out of my chair, and it hit me. SERIOUS pain. I could not move. My co-workers called 911 and I was carted off in an ambulance.
They did the x-rays and did not find anything major, so I went to the chiropractor. She sent me for an MRI, which showed bulging discs at L5 and S1. I also have degenerative disc disease (more progressed than it should be at 30 years of age) and lots of bone spurs all over the place. I went to the chiro for a few months, and it did no good. From there, I went to my regular doctor to get referred to a physical therapist (I was afraid to go to the Orthopedic becuase I figured they would just want to stick needles in me or cut me open). I went to the physical therapist for a few months, and things started to actually GET WORSE. The pain was becoming more unbearable! I was having the low back pain, pain shooting down my left leg all the time, and my left hip was hurting really bad too. So, I broke down and had my doctor refer me to the Orthopedic. I have been seeing him for a few months now. In those few months, I have been for 3 different sets of steroidal injections. The first set was the epidural steroid injections in the L5/S1 spots. They did nothing! The next set was done in the facet joints and the sacroiliac joint! THAT HURT SOOOOOO BAD! The sacroiliac joint is where the hip bone meets the tail bone. I about came off the table when he was doing them. I cried the whole time, and for about 15 minutes after it was all over. Well, after that series of shots, I guesstimated that my overall improvement was about 20%! Not that great! SO, I spent yesterday morning having a combo set of the epidural AND another round of the blasted sacroiliac joint injections. I AM SOOOOO Miserable! I know that some people experience immediate relief from these darn shots, and I want to know why I am not so lucky! My injection sites are so tender. I do not like this one bit! He even said that I may have to still have ANOTHER round. I do not understand what the point is if they are not helping anymore than they have. I am too afraid to ask what we will have to do if these shots end up not doing the trick. I do not want to have back surgery, but I also can not stand to be in pain EVERYDAY!!!!! I am tired of taking the medications. I HATE taking the narcotic pain meds, and told him that they only take a small amount of the pain away, so he called in a prescription for Lyrica today. From what I have read, it is just as impairing to my functionality as the narcotics. IT ALSO SAYS THAT IT CAUSES WEIGHT GAIN!!!! I have spent the last 6 months losing 30 pounds, and have NO desire to be gaining it back. BUT, it is supposed to help with the nerve pain, and I guess I will take it and see what it does to me. WISH ME LUCK!
If anyone has any advice or wants to share any similar stories with me, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for listening.

I use to do some light weights, a little resistance training, and some cardio on my gazelle glider, but since the pain has gotten so much worse, I am not able to do any of it and still be comfortable. I am really looking forward to feeling good enough to get back at it. Good luck to you too.
good luck
Now that I have written this mini-novel and probably bored you to tears I'll just say that I hope it helps and that your pain is relieved. As I said pretty close to about 10 days ago ;-) when I started writing this novel BACK PAIN SUCKS and I hope you find relief!
Good luck!
I have had no offers from my doctor for sedation when I have had these shots, and I have had a driver each time. I will definitely be checking into that, because it is not pleasant at all when he goes near that sacroiliac joint. Thank you for the tip.
As for the physical therapy and exercising, I am still doing the core strengthening exercises that I can manage to do. Still doing the bracing and some of the other less involved moves to keep the effort going. I just can not handle the hip flexion and more involved exercises right now. They hurt more than I feel they should at this time.
I will definitely be picking back up with it once I get to a point that I can. I have taken the Lyrica for 2 nights now, and I have actually slept through the night both nights (something that I have never been able to do), so I know that it is very strong, and I am not going to be able to take it during the day. He had prescribed it as 1 pill twice a day, and I will only be able to do that if I have NOTHING else to do. Since I constantly have SOMETHING to do, I think I am just going to stick to the nightly does right now. I wake up feeling a little disoriented and I do not like that much, but I am waking up in a little less pain that before, so I guess I have to weigh the pros and the cons.
I am leaving today to go out of town, and try to have a mini-vacation, (which I will probably spend riding around on one of the electronic scooters with my grandparents :-), but I am looking forward to it. Wish me luck, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
I go to my Orthopedic for my injections, but I have been to a pain clinic in the past for problems with my neck. I saw a neurologist there for that, and they ended up helping me a lot. I guess that it all comes down to the fact that if she is in lots of pain, she really should try and see if they help. I hope it works out for her, I know it is no fun. Let me know if you have any other questions. If I do not have the answer, I am sure we can get it. Good luck to you and your daughter.
Check it out. Hope you're feeling better soon.
