Five minutes ago I completed the 1st draft of my fourth novel: Cornelius--the Orphan. Since no one is around and everyone I know is at work, I thought I'd tell my Gather friends. Now for the fun part: editing and re-editing and....
Congrats, congrats, congrats. I know how cool that feeling is. My third book is in edit mode and my fourth is roughly 75% written. I hope to share that same feeling in a couple of months. Congrats again.
The intial feeling when I finish a project is always elation. Unfortunatly for me, it doesn't last all that long. Suddenly, the realization hits me that I'm done with that book. Characters with whom I was invested are no longer a part of my life. I wonder how many other novelists feel this way. The nice thing about a series is that some of the characters lives can be revisited.
Got a book signing event tonight to think about, so will try and leave my temporary funk in the backup CD and move on to the next thing tomorrow.
It was a dark and stormy night.... Nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised at the turnout, both fans from previous books and newcomers. Thanks for asking.
I just went to your web site and was reading about this new book. It sounds wonderful. I am a big fan of historical fiction. I think that I would really enjoy this book. Our Son in law wrote several books. His wife is on gather also
Congratulations Douglas - and thanks for connecting with me - yes, I do enjoy James Lee Burke - well, we're from the same area - I'm from St. Mary Parish which borders Iberia Parish - I have met him a few times - his cousin owns a camp across from one of my best friend's camp - anyway, down there we are all close.
