People With Down Syndrome or Shaved Beards Shouldn't Be Allowed To Marry
Do you agree? Does anything look strange about this? Should Down Syndrome people be allowed to marry? Why should they not be allowed to marry? What makes them different from those who do not have Down Syndrome and should this prevent them from being married?
Down Syndrome people have trisomy 21, meaning that they have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome whereas those of us without Down Syndrome simply have 2 copies. This leads to a variety of differences between people with Down's and those without. They have many structural differences. They have a single transverse palmar crease, often ear and facial malformations, and often mental retardation. Now they were born like this and had no choice as to what their bodies would do. Should they thus be prevented from marrying?
Similarly, homosexuals are born with structural differences in their bodies that are different from heterosexuals. For example, in the brain, the suprachiasmatic nucleus is larger in the brains of homosexuals (DF Swaab 1990), The anterior commissure is larger in homosexuals (Allen, Gorski, 1992), and the third interstitial notch of the anterior hypothalamus is smaller in homosexuals (LeVay 1991). Homosexuals are born with these (and many other) structural differences and like Down’s patients, they don’t have a choice as to how their bodies are constructed. Thus, how about a person born without the development of one arm, should he or she be allowed to marry simply because they were born that way?
But the bible is against it!!! The bible is also against men shaving their beards.
For those who would like to read Leviticus 19:27, I put it both in Hebrew and in English for you. Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.
Essentially, you are commanded not to cut the hair on the top of your head (or rather round the corners) or shave the corners of your beard. Let’s be honest, for those of you who are married, did you make sure that you required your fiancé and soon to be husband to not shave his beard and allow it to grow out because screw what would look good in the wedding photos, it is commanded by God and must be done? Chances are that you pushed for shaving or at least trimming (still against God’s commandments).
Essentially, it is ridiculous to hear ANYONE be against marriage for homosexuals or at least the guaranteed economic, social, medical, etc. same benefits of marriage (which are NOT provided in civil unions). Remember that we all learned a lesson in Brown v. Board of Education that separate but equal is NOT equal and is unconstitutional. Well, Marriage and Civil Unions are NOT equal. How would you feel if anyone prevented you from getting married to the person that you love? Every human is a person. We all experience the human condition. Equality includes EVERY human, not just the ones you think it should apply to. If you are against gay rights, you are on the WRONG side of human rights.
