"It doesn't matter where you go in this world. There will always be corruption and inequality. It is not only human nature, but the way of nature its self. It is completely unavoidable. Happiness comes from having the courage to change the world to suit you, the wisdom to change your self to suit the world and knowing how much of each is necessary."
Nicholas Colin MacLaughlin
A Flair for Lunacy
My mind is an endless prairie: tall grass seed airborne,
dairy cows grazing, prairie dogs living below the ground,
tornadoes unfairly touching down in rows of waving corn
natural affairs of life and death as seasons cycle around
My spirit is a staircase to heaven: leading me upwards
to a place where golfballs always hit the fairway, none
of my schemes are hairbrained, my books become words
on printed page, and hairstyles never have to be redone.
My heart is an open book: fairytales and fables
debonair corsairs fighting for booty, an airmail letter
sent from an airman at war, "Dear Jane" cables
ending the affair, and romances despairing for better.
My soul is one of God's mansions: A warm cozy lair
filled with Chippendale chairs, fireplaces and cachepots
of maidenhair ferns, fairylights in trees, and a pair
of silk upholstered wingback chairs in pink polkadots.
My life is a fortune cookie: clairvoyant in revelations
buried in dreams, a broken record filling the airwaves
with the same song, not impaired by preconceptions,
a dashing French Legionnaire who swoops in and saves.
My imagination is a lighter-than-airship: a big balloon
with hot air and a basket, heading for a safe airstrip,
sometimes landing on barren cairns, a flair for lunacy,
driven to take a journey most extraordinaire; a trip.

This is a masterpiece of beautifully written metaphors! Absolutely enchanting! My favorite lines:
"My spirit is a staircase to heaven:" ... and
"My soul is one of God's mansions:"
What gorgeous language!!!!!!!
......of my schemes are hairbrained, my books become words.......
the book become words on printed page threw me as I thought that you inadvertently switched the terms.... but then I remembered it was a flair for lunacy where all is possible and nothing is trusted to be reality!
A great job,Sue. Boy reading it sure worked up an appetite for a turkey sandwich....:D
I just adore this! You do so many excellent works, but I do believe that this is your best regarding the use of metaphors. Tremendous!!!!
