I'd like some information on Omaha Steaks...

Has anyone bought anything from Omaha Steaks? What did you think? I know Gather has gift certificates for Omaha Steaks, but I don't know that much about the company. I have looked at it on line, but the prices seem high. Is it worth the expense?

 I'd appreciate any input.

Jax my brother said he and his wife ordered from this company and thought the meat was very good. My brother is very budget minded so when he says he would order from them again it means the qaulity is very good.

I haven't tried them myself just because they are expensive; but trust my brothers judgement.

I haven't tried them but friends have said that the meat is very good. I'm of the mindset, though, that the same quality of meats are sold by Costco, boxed and in their freezer section.

I have and the meat was great. It can be pricey but my now grown children remember the taste and ask when we can have it again. LOL

Janet, I have heard they are delicious. Do you have a Honey Baked Ham Store in your area? They sell them. You could buy one or two and check them out. I've wanted to but always have a reason not to try. We have a meat market here that sells very good filets in several sizes at very good prices. I don't believe I could do better than those, but I have often wondered about the Omaha Steaks. If you try them, let me know.

My sister uses these folks every now & then for gifts she lives in Omaha. (I was the recipient of one several times :) ) The meat is very good but you pay for the convenience & shipping in the long run too. It does make a nice gift. You'll have to decide whether the price is worth it. C):-)

save your gc's and wait for a sale, when they have them the deals are so much better than just buying outright. I have not bough anything there but since i signed up at their site i get sales offers all the time.

Our Honey Baked Ham store doesn't carry the Omaha Steaks...I'd like to use a gc for them sometime...

I got an OMaha steak gift card from gather last year. The steaks are wonderful but are pricy. And look at the certificate very carefully. You have to go to a certain website to redeem it not the regular omaha steaks one.

You can get as good in your local market/butcher shop.

I've always wondered about them. Based on this information, maybe I'll give them a try. They are expensive but I have noticed several sales that made them more reasonable. If you're a member of my points, you get special offers every now and then.

I've tried them before, they are pretty good.... I always used gift certificates from online earnings to purchase, they are too pricey for me to use real $$$$

We just got meat from Omaha on Tuesday, because I had a gift card. The meat does seem to be better quality than what I get at the store, but the portion sizes are small, and yes it is pricey. Look for a coupon or a sale though, and you can get a great deal. I had a coupon from the Entertainment book, and I got about 100 something worth for my 50 dollar certificate. Everyone loved the meat, and we really did get a lot for our 50 dollars due to the coupon.

The USDA grades the steaks. There are only three grades prime (only 2% is called prime and goes to really expensive restaurants and exported.) choice which is what BJ and Costco sells and many good restaurants use.) and select is what you find in most supermarkets.

Omaha steaks use the term Premium beef. This is a weasel word that implies prime but can also means choice and select. You will never see a USDA label on Omaha steaks. Because to sell USDA Prime Steak, you have to be able to show a the label.

I have ordered from them before. I liked the steak very much (but the "burger patties" weren't too good). But I still don't think it's worth the price tag. I didn't mind trying it once because they were good, but I wouldn't buy it repeatedly.

I'd echo what many have said here. Very good, but without those Gather gift cards, I wouldn't order for the market price. I get very good meat for less at Whole Foods.

We purchased both our son in laws a gift package from Omaha Steak this year for their birhtdays. They loved it.

Our one son in law loved it so much that he purchased his brother one for his birthday.
