Welcome to the Community Event Calendar!
A daily article series keeping you up-to-date on everything HOT, NEW and NEXT in the Community! In the next few days, the event calendar will sport a completely new compact design, up-to-date extended listings, new member and group profiles ...Plus, EVEN MORE trivia, puzzles and games! - look for it all coming your way very very soon!
I'm taking the calendar in a direction focusing more on members and member activities. Soon I will be featuring member content (articles, images, groups, etc.) in a similar way to the home page. Plus, I have found that the descriptions members provide in their profiles are quite fascinating (and addictive), so I will be including those wherever possible too!
Plus, I will be holding my own contest focusing on member trivia, and you can win some great Gather Gear! :-)
Also, I noticed the calendar is put out by you specifically now, rather than through the Gather Guides group. Did I miss something explaining this? Not a complaint here, I like what you're doing with it. Just wondering why the change.
I choose the featured members at random, and will include a mix of newer and more established members. I also look for members that have completed the "About Me" section of their profile, as reading them is quite fascinating and educational. I will also be featuring member content like images, articles and groups soon. If you have any suggestions about how to choose members for featuring, please let me know. I may also select members that comment here! ;-)
FYI, I left the Gather Guide program at the beginning of the month, and as I designed and published the event calendar, I wanted to keep it going as a service to the community. The guides may be publishing their own calendar at some point, and we will need to work together to minimize any potential overlap in capabilities.
I had only recently noticed that your icon didn't have the Gather border. Didn't tie it in. I'm sure there was a good reason for leaving the program. I'm just glad you're still around........and still doing the calendar. It's rather handy, you know.
A question: I've wanted to use columns for ages but don't know how to do this in Gather. Could you please give me a few tips?
A suggestion: How about, in the 'Members of Note,' featuring members who do not live in the USA? Perhaps even think about having such a section...it promotes the world-wide community nature of Gather as well as we overseas members who are excluded from Gather sponsored competitions.
I'm featuring this in the Chat & Connections Garden Cafe.
I like the layout of the community calendar...found some things I didn't know about.
My intent was to feature members from around the globe. However, since selection is random, I ended up not representing international members in the mix. I will try to change this for subsequent editions!
