I never really thought too much of it before, but now that my daughter has reached the magic age, I find myself looking at every young kid on the road and the way they drive. It makes me very nervous when I watch some of them. I don't even go near the high school in the morning. It's mass chaos. She's talked about getting her permit but we have kind of put that on hold until probably the spring time now. I don't mind driving her where she needs to go. I really don't understand the kids that are out in the middle of the night driving. Do the parents even care about them and where they are? If she wants to wait until she's 18, I'll be fine with that. A little bit of maturity, I think goes a long way at age with driving. So many of her friends are getting new cars for their 16th birthday. I find this absolutely ludicrous. If you want them to drive,ok, but do they need a new car. I think not.

Not all 16 year old's are mature enough to handle a license, though.
In North Dakota (where I now live) you can get your license when you are only 14! I don't think most kids are ready for it at that age.

Altho down here, in FL I don't think they have drivers ed in school, they can get their permit at 15, then after they have had it a year, they can get their license.
I lived in IL all my life till about 2 years ago, and up there, we had to take drivers ed. Altho, they didn't start making you have to take a drivers test at the dmv untill the following year, when my sister got her license.
I also think it is silly to buy a 16 year old a new car. My mother did buy me a car, but it was a 1981 buick (as old as me) that she paid $500 so that she had something to teach me in. So that if anything happened to it, then it wouldn't matter.
My sister bought a car for £10, that was how much petrol the guy said was in it. We shared that car and both used it for a year at least before we each went and bought something nicer (not much nicer in my case).
My 17 year old stepson has had his license for 7 months and has had 2 tickets, one for speeding and one for not wearing a seatbelt.
He is a good example of the idiots that shouldnt be allowed a license. I think teenage boys are worse than girls as they seem to think they have more to prove.
