Into a shallow pond I gazed
and saw an azure sky.
A tadpole moved its tiny tail
Stirring the clouds on high.
A trifle deeper I then peered
My face came into view
The landing of a dragonfly
Changed the image to no one I knew.
How little we really know ourselves
Or those we hold most dear
When one small creature, a moment in time
Can make the known unclear.
The tadpole knew not he transformed the sky
As he swam in ignorant bliss
The dragonfly showed with one soft kiss
The person I once thought I knew
Did not exist.
