I posted some photos today showing the Oklahoma town of Medicine Park at the foot hills of the Wichita Mountians outside of Lawton OK. Several asked for more about Medicine Park. This is an article that I wrote some time ago about my visit there.
Want a peaceful place to hang out? This is no Doctor's Park as the name might imply.
This small red cobblestone town in the Witchita Mountains is well worth the visit. Built along Medicine Creek, it is home to small artsy shops and picturesque buildings and a lovely lighted river walk with a waterfall at one end of town. There are numerous old buildings that have been restored and are in the process of restoration and some new homes are being built with the cobblestone flavor on the facades to blend in with the other buildings in town. You will find a town hall, library, craft shops, bed and breakfasts, and eating places and always a place to park and get out and enjoy the atmosphere.
Flat Randy went with us on this excursion so that he could get in the photos. He is quite photogenic you know. Well that meant some scrambling around the river banks for both Flat Randy and I but it was worth it. He wanted to climb on the buffalo scupltue so I let him have a picture taken there but I ruled out the mountain lion sculpture that was in someone's yard.
Check out this site for more about Medicine park and directions for getting there.
