Three disabled people have sued Walt Disney World for not allowing them to use their Segways to move around its theme parks. The plaintiffs are each able to stand but cannot walk far. They have all been denied permission to use their Segway-two wheel vehicles at Walt Disney World, according to the federal court lawsuit. The suit filed on Friday says they're among an estimated 4,000 to 7,000 similarly disabled people who have turned to Segways as mobility tools.
"Disney says it fears Segways could endanger other guests because they can go faster than 12 mph."

Now I can see both the pro's and con's for Segway use at the WDW theme parks, some days it is so crowded, people are darting all over the place, a Segway added to this, and you are bound to have someone struck by running in front of a Segway. Whic could cause injury not only to the Segway user, but to the park guest who was struck with the Segway.
But I can also see how a disabled person, could benefit from it's use in the park. After all WDW rents the mobile wheel chais out. And I have seen people get struck by those.

What are your thoughts on this?
Do you think WDW park guests should be able to use Segways or not?

These disabled people are able to use wheel chairs, however, and if they can't walk, should use wheel chairs for the park. Seeing a segway doesn't make people watch out or help the person, because it isn't a universal sign for being handicapped, where as a wheelchair is.
I applaud their independance in every day life in getting around the best way they can, but it can be a big danger to those around them when you put them in an uncontrolled, crowded, chaotic place like Disney.
Most people do not stop when they see Segways, but how every for a wheel chair most people stop, hold a door open, and stand away from it.
I agree with you the powerized chairs and scooters are fast, and I have seen near misses with them. Espically when a grandchild is sitting on the lap of a grandparent who is letting them steer.
Wheel chairs are heavy, I have pushed my dad's only once.
I can not even begin to think how hard and how tired a person would be after pushing it at WDW all day.
I do agree with you, yes wheel chairs must be uncomfortable, yes Disney CM's use Segways, but the Disney Cm's do stop the Segway when they see a crowd of park guests, and wait until the park guests leave before resuming motion.
Georgianne has avalid point. If the employees are allowed to us ethem, than the disabled will win th elawsuit. You can;t allow one group to use it but than deny another. Espically when we are talking about the disabled.
Many people who rent the motorized scooters, have never ridden one before, and have never visited WDW before.
I agree if they can walk, then they can sit and rest.
Heck I walk and sit and rest, those Disney parks are HUGE! ;-)
