Yesterday in my Arab countries class we discussed Iraq. It is much worse than I thought, and I have never been an optimist. One thing I didn't know about the Kurds in northern Iraq is that there are about a half dozen Kurdish groups, each with their own militia. When they are not busy fighting the Arabs or the Turks they are perfectly happy fighting each other.

It is easier, or at least less difficult, to understand what is going on in the Middle East if I know something about the history, religions and cultures of the people who live there. A couple of years ago I took an excellent course on Islam at LLI.
Thank you for your answer. So, are you learning anything? What is your conclusion about Islam? Is it a religion of peace?
