Update on my daughter

My daughter was put into that program STABILIZATION...she is there for 5 days and we go everyday for counselling. She was really shocked yesterday when we told her that she was going.

We go see her today...and she comes home on Monday. (My son's birthday) I just hope everything will be okay. In Canada this is all free because we went through another organization.

I'll keep you all updated.

I just went back and read your other posts regarding your daughter before responding to this. And I don't have a whole lot to say other than that you are not a crappy mom; you are being forced to do what is best for both of your kids, even if that means not having them both with you. My heart goes out to you.

A long time ago, I'm guessing early 80's my two nieces, ages 9 & 11, got into a fight and one of them went after the other with a knife. When asked, why, the knife wielder said, "I seen it on one of Mom's soap operas." IMHO, TV desensitizes...Neither one of them needed counseling and grew up to be wonderful women, plus they love each other dearly. I'm not saying this is your situation..just relating an experience. Hope all goes well and she gets the help she needs..

I am so glad that she and your family are getting help:) Too bad it took what it did for someone to listen to you.

Marianne asked if 5 days was long enough....Here is the states it would be and even shorter stay. They just need to get her, mellow, is what I would call it and I am sure that there will be a lot of follow up.

Finding the right mix of meds will take time. Try not to hover too much, but you may want to keep a log of your own on the changes in her behaviour, sleep patterns, diet, etc. This could come in handy to determining if it works.

My thoughts are still with you and yours:)

BTW, I am sorry about what she did that ended up getting her and you help, but as long as your son is okay, look at it as a gift.

I wish that my parents had taken a more aggressive roll in realizing and dealing with my BP. I spent many years self medicating (drinking) after I left home and I am still cleaning up the mess that I made. She has a chance to get on the right track early and look forward.

Hmmm... prob called diff in Canada- though I went to a psychiatric unit for adolescents when I told my father I couldn't take it anymore with my life and needed more support than he could offer me. I've been diagnosed as Bipolar disorder- I was diagnosed in my teen years. and I'm now 19 and doing better.. ;) It took awhile though-- I don't take meds, but I'm doing well without meds when learning appropriate coping skills, etc. Some things you just do to calm down-- other things are inapproprite.

Sounds like stabilization is where they stabilize your mood swings, emotional side, and other things that just aren't working properly in the brain -- its like a computer overloading and not working correctly. Everything needs stabilization. ;)
