People are talking about the weather and news
And giving their opinion with oft pointed views
Emotions run the gamut from smiles to a frown
As this common conversation never leaves town
Sometimes things get personal with words that inflame
And emotions burn hot as anger shows its fangs
These colorful descriptions tear without restraint
As justice sought out often moves beyond complaint
Why has lost its reason as violence appears
And tries for a solution that has disappeared
There's no rhyme or reason to harm another soul
No answer can forgive the loss of self control
Cowardice is shown when we prey upon the weak
And there's no love at all if by force we must seek
The acceptance of our terms as if they could mend
The black hatred of fear that only seeks revenge
Pride of the ignorant think fists can apply
Justice by subtraction to somehow stem the tide
Of a hatred that is brewing in this cold rain
Knowing not there is tomorrow that pays back pain
Each person has a limit dare not cross that line
And be hopeful they'll walk away instead of find
Ways to bring you anguish and terrify your soul
For anger sometimes makes a person act stone cold
Step back when you are angered and calm down a bit
Try to use some reason and never ever hit
Each problem can be solved but only if you try
To say all you're feeling without hints of self pride
Sometimes there are answers you have never thought of
But every solution is always made of love
Accept you may be the problem without a clue
Just keep your mind open as events speak to you

M.
Thank you for your comments on my poem; it was very much appreicated.

What happened to chivalry. I know that women have fought for equal rights but that was never about being equal in an animal cage. Figuratively speaking.
All my novels are pro-feminist and anti-abuse. I fight for what you're talking about Bill.
Good for you for raising this issue.
I agree with your suggestions,
"Step back when you are angered and calm down a bit
Try to use some reason and never ever hit
Each problem can be solved but only if you try
To say all you're feeling without hints of self pride
Sometimes there are answers you have never thought of
But every solution is always made of love
Accept you may be the problem without a clue
Just keep your mind open as events speak to you"
I so wish I could get this point through to one of my kids and make his life a little easier also. Thanks for this. Would you mind terribly if I printed this out for him?
Whatever happens , our poor heart has to take the burden of all the incidents whether it's good or bad...and we blame that our cholesterol is high.
Then we realize that we not only a social animal...but only an animal...
though I always tried to use this lil' sweet word emotions as the most delicate ones but you are right many times emotions are also hot and looks fire-like.When that last string of your soul is touched by those cruel words that time our emotions ,they just revolt ...
Beautiful William..
It's all about the upbringing of that person who is violent. They think they are normal people but they don;t realize they are pure sadist..
Violence through words is as dangerous as that man himself is.
revenge...I hate this word
nice William..
Knowing not there is tomorrow that pays back pain
...yes...but the problem is that a criminal's immune system is too strong. All these are the ugly negative rays which has almost polluted the society.
curtailing other's liberty of breathing in an open atmosphere has become the common skill for many...
violence through weapons...through words are same....One kills the person but another one kills him completely...
sit back and count till 10 ....No...I put my fav music...or I take a piece of paper and draw something...I thing that I am not a coward but I am flourishing...I am meditating...I have a lot of responsibilities infront of me and for anyone I am not ready to destroy my day...
But what's happening in this world is real shocking...
Last week I read on a news website about an Indian girl ,who was returning late from her office and then she took a cab but she didn't reach home coz in between she met her death. They were five and she faced a gang rape and was murdered.
I have said a lot here...Excuse me if written anything off the track...I was emotional and Bhawana means emotional:)
you have scratched those emotions very well...Ohh scratched looks violent...
You have painted these emotions fabulously...
Excellent
Enjoyable and full of wisdom.
Thanks you for sharing.
I hardly ever watch the TV news due to the violence that is omnipresent: small children being killed, women assaulted, innocent lives changed forever. I'm not even mentioning the violence involved in all the wars.
A very well written poem, William.
"Pride of the ignorant think fists can apply
Justice by subtraction to somehow stem the tide
Of a hatred that is brewing in this cold rain
Knowing not there is tomorrow that pays back pain"
really like this. thanks for the poem!
Then, even though it begins my favorite stanza, "Pride of the ignorant think fists can apply" is just too grammaticaly confused for me. I believe you mean to send a resounding message of hope here, and I'm asking you to think about the clarity you've achieved. Does the following stanza contribute that much to your message?
Each person has a limit dare not cross that line
And be hopeful they'll walk away instead of find
Ways to bring you anguish and terrify your soul
For anger sometimes makes a person act stone cold
That's a genuine question, and I'm not sure of the answer. It feels like an unnecessary bridge between your powerful summary before it and the hope which follows. So here's hoping that makes some sense, and I'll be curious to see what you think....
me speechless! I love you my dearest friend!
As for your second comment concerning the following verses:
Each person has a limit dare not cross that line
And be hopeful they'll walk away instead of find
Ways to bring you anguish and terrify your soul
For anger sometimes makes a person act stone cold
You are somewhat correct in saying this is a bridge, but it is also meant as a warning to the reader to not just think they are the victim, because they could be the cause of the problem. I must admit I thought about omitting this stanza, but decided not to, so as to bring some balance into the equation by saying the victim doesn't always have a free pass in claiming no responsibility. I'm not condoning violence, but a person can goad another person into a violent action.
