We moved here a little over six months ago from what I considered paradise. We were ocean front on an eight mile span of untarnished shore. Now we are on a six lane highway in the middle of the city!
Having accepted my fate, if some what reluctantly, that we are here for the duration, I decided that I should get to know my new home a little better. So, I grabbed my camera and decided to go do a little exploring and see what I could find around town.

Just a mile down the road there is Historic Downtown Kissimmee. An area reminscent of many cities and town across America that have slowly died away at the hand of super stores and stripe malls. Mom and Pop stores are becoming a thing of the past. But here they are still hanging on and there is even signs of revitalization!

I found a lot of unique surprises. I hope you enjoy my little stroll down old Broadway!

The first thing I was to discover was that Iwas lucky enough to be there while they were having a display of sculptures by local artists along the streets. Here is a sample of some of the unique artwork I found. There are said to be 11, but I didn't find them all. Just another reason to go back and search some more!

They didn't have any placards or descriptions. Allow your imagination to give them a name. I called this one the running man.

I nicknamed this one Joyful Expectations.

This is next one is prehaps my favorite and I've dubbed it Wind in My Mane.

As I sauntered along I also did a little window shoppping and found some pretty neat treasures.

Olde time barber shoppe and Wishing Well Boutique.

Beautiful mosaic and....

Antique carosel horse to awaken memories of days long gone by and a butlering monkey to bring a smile for new memories being created.

There were great old murals...

And a sign of the present with our local Polic Department.
Prehaps the best little find of them all...a simple preal in day where simplicity is lost to technology.
Joanies...
"Where the locals go..."

Sadly, I got there just as they were about to close, but they did let me go in and take pictures. They watched as I strolled about looking for the best light and shadows. They seemed to get a chuckle over the whole thing and thought it was pretty funny that I wanted pictures of their empty diner.

It was a nice find and I look forward to returning to Joanie's for one of her famous bugers in Old Histroic Kissimmee and of all the future discoveries I've yet to find in my new home town!

After crying myself to sleep for the first six weeks, I finally found a station a AOL that plays nature sounds. Last night we were in the rain forest of Borneo and far from the highway traffic!! :)
Thank you all for taking time to read this and for all your kind comments!
I will be in Kissimmee in December.
I have been a number of times, but have not discovered what you posted here, so I must look more carefully! Thanks for pointing it out!
Thanks Deborah!
Cristina, this is in the Main St./Broadway Area and if you like this you may want to check out the article I did on a lakefront park I found in the same area.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments!!
I've been in my new hometown for 2 years. I've done a lot of photo essays about it. It's been a blessing to be able to share the great things I have here with friends I needed to make on this site.
Thanks for dropping in Ron!
I think the horse was probably one of my favorites!
And I loved the sculptures.
Thanks Shannon, nice to see you stopped by!!
