I wanted to follow up on this.
I have received many private emails from the wonderful people on gather.
It seems that article really hit home for so many people.
One emailed me that she had the choice of working for a large corporation or a small college. She really wanted the position at the college because she would feel more of a sense of accomplishment but HAD to take the corporate job because of the insurance benefits. Eleven years later her decision still bothers her.
Another person emailed me that she is a nurse in a poverty stricken area. The clinic she works at can't afford the much needed equipment because medicaid just doesn't pay very much.
I could go on and on. I have received 15 emails on this topic.
That shows me that affordable healthcare IS a priority.
We the people need to let this be known to the candidates. In a country as rich in technology and resources as the United States NO ONE should have to suffer because they can't afford to pay high insurance premiums.

(That was all sarcasm.)
Thank you for the article and your follow up, Lori. It is much more of a problem than some choose to acknowledge.
Jackie thanks so much.
I'm not a proponent of socialized medicine, but these insurance companies have got to be brought under control. The whole chain... the pharmaceutical companies, the insurance companies, all of the people that are getting rich from the suffering of others.
It is a big and serious issue. We have the insurance through my husband work. But it doesn't nearly cover enough. I pray every night my kids don't get sick or hurt.
I'd be content if we could implement something on the Kaiser model nationwide.
