This morning I settled in to watch some food shows on In the Kitchen on the food network and was delighted to see some new ones for a refreshing change. I was also delighted to see that today's theme was Kids in the Kitchen. I always enjoyed cooking with my children when they were growing up and I still enjoy cooking with them now as well as my 7 year old great neice.
First up was Quick Fix Meals with Robin Miller. Robin made Thai Turkey and Rice with her two little boys. They were so cute. She kept feeding them bits of the meal they were helping prepare, to I think quieten them down a bit, as they kept asking questions while she was trying to give instructions. They ate raw carrots and snow peas as well as hunks of the roasted turkey. They are pretty young but were still able to throw things in the pan for their Mom. She also made an ice cream dessert with them and they were throwing in things they liked -- lots of sprinkles for one and chocolate chips for the other.
Next was Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee. She had her nephew Brycer on helping throw him a paint birthday party. Brice's friend Josh showed Aunt Sandy how to make his special party snack mix. After Sandra made a couple of recipes for the party, Brice helped her make a Single Layer Birthday Cake. She seemed to have lots of fun with the boys in the kitchen.
Cooking with Paula was next but it was a repeat. She cooked with two neighbor boys. I'd saw this one before so I did the dishes while this one was on.
After that came 30 Minute Meals with Rachael Ray. Rachael had back a young guest she has had in the past named Tyler as her co-host. They made a tasty looking Tacozana (cross between Lasagna and Tacos) and a Banana Cream Pie. Although neither Rachel or Sandra have kids of their own they both seem to enjoy having kids in their kitchen and have a rapor with them.
Simply Deliciso with Ingrid Hoffman was also a repeat where she cooked with her Mom. I took this oppoturnity to do some laundry.
Next came Everyday Italian. Giada didn't actually cook with kids but for them instead. It did show her playing and eating with them after though. She has had children in her kitchen as well before and is another one who seems to have fun cooking with them even though she doesn't have any of her own. She made yummy looking Pizza Pot Pies, Veggie Stuffed Pancakes and Strawberry and Mascarpone Stuffed Cupcakes.
Then came Barefoot Contessa. It was one I've seen several times of her baking with her neighbor Tess who at the time ws 14. She cooked a meal for her last season I think and she was in college.
Guy's Big Bite was also a repeat and no kids in site. I gave the remote to my hubby and decided to do a little more house cleaning and spend some time on the computer. If you saw some of the shows what did you think? If you missed the shows and would like to check out some of the recipes go to foodnetwork.com and click on todays show list, Sat. Nov 3, 2007

I don't cook with my children, I know I should but I don't. My mother didn't won't anyone in the kitchen with her and I'm the same way but I do let them cook during the holidays. They bake cakes so that's a start.
Carolyn, I loved to cook with my kids and was lucky my Mom didn't mind us being in the kitchen when I was growing up. She had to learn to cook from her mother in law since she wasn't allowed in the kitchen when she was growing up either. You're right letting them help with cakes is a start.
