Thanksgiving Apron for Nanny!

Every Thanksgiving, when my children were little we gathered at my mother's. To show our appreciation, we surprised her with a special "apron of thanks." We cut all four grandkids' handprints from different autumnal fabrics, sewed them on, and used puffy paint to make them look like turkeys. We also used the paints to add small leaves. Then we embroidered "We're thankful for Nanny" at the top. The kids each said why they were grateful for Nanny when they presented it to her. As you might imagine , it was a tearful moment for us all. Soon I will be going to my mothers to bring the aprons into my home as my mom passed this year so the tradition will not continue.

Sorry, that your mother passed. I know that you might have mixed feelings about taken the aprons to you home. When I was a child I gave my grand mother a doll. I thought the doll was ugly but my grandmother saw it in a magazine and wanted it so I bought it for her. Long story short, when she passed away several years ago. I got the doll. Now everytime I see the doll I think of her and how happy it made her.

Keep the aprons and have the next generation add their turkeys and completely cover it OR frame them and hang them in your kitchen or near your table so your mam will be joining you for Thanksgiving.

Why don't you start a new tradition based on the old one? Isn't there some way to honor your mother's memory at this time of year. How about a "We remember Nanny" apron or "We're still thankful for Nanny." Think about it!

So sorry for your loss also, but it is nice that you are carrying on this sweet tradition!! My grandma passed away last year so Christmas is really strange since we always used to spend it there!

What a lovely thing to do , what beautiful memories to have . My grandchildren call me Nanny too , I am so sorry you have lost your Mum , my parents Both have Alzheimer's and I look after them both still in their own home , I try to live for the day with them and not think too far in the future , I am so pleased that you are carrying on the tradition in your name xx

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. The tradition of the apron sounds like a wonderful way to have both honor while living and to remember some great memories now that she is gone. Traditions are very important!!
