Recently, during a press conference, President Bush came out swinging, accusing those Democrats that think for them selves and have not fallen under his spell as un-American and aiding the enemies of U.S.
I object to that characterization in the most extreme manner. It seems to me, that having an open mind and not falling into the quagmire that the War in Iraq has become, is totally American and Patriotic. Having an objective point of view and not accepting the corporate line, without question is the very definition of a good leader, and our elected officials, whether Democrat or Republican should reflect that, and our President should most of all.
President Bush, in my opinion, should be more concern with the many deaths of Americans occurring daily in foreign lands, than his current focus of showing the Democrat party and the rest of America that he still matters. His attitude of, it is my ball and we will play what I want or nothing at all, is merely digging us deeper and deeper into a hole that may eventually end in a world war, pitting Muslims against Christians, with the U.S. at that forefront.
I personally do not see the reasoning behind, President Bush’s current rhetoric that is creating a bigger rift between the Democratic and Republican parties. This is not a time for bickering over political ideology, but a time for bringing the country together as whole, then and only then can we truly defeat the evil that is currently threatening us all.

Juan ~ Your article is one of the most respectful I've read from your vantage point and I thank you for that. I wish I could identify the President's comments that you refer to. At face value of the interpretation here ...
Your comment about "bringing the country together as a whole" is the best statement I've heard from anyone of your position make. I would expect our President to stand behind America during a war. The last thing I would expect of any President is to publicly speak against a war when American lives are being lost. I don't believe any responsible President, Democrat or Republican, would do or encourage otherwise. I would hope not.
I believe that principle is what President Bush was trying to convey to the American Congress and to the people.
Unlike wars before this (save the Gulf War), our news broadcasts now are world wide. Our enemies hear and see them and our troops hear and see them - just as we do. I agree absolutely about your reference to "the very definition of a good leader." But good leaders can be what you define without publicly denouncing America's President or a war that our American Troops are actively engaged in. There's just something innately wrong about doing that. Don't you agree?
I doubt if it could be denied that airing public contentions about the war only serves to undermine the end result we all want. Politicians' public denouncements of America's war effort now (by any Congressman) go more to touting themselves and their elections than to your very good definition of a good leader. And I do believe that is what President Bush was trying to say.
Thank you for a respectful take on a very sensitive issue. I appreciated it.
PAY IT FORWARD
I do distinctly recall, though, being stunned a morning about 10-years ago when I awoke to hear on the news that Clinton had suddenly decided on his own to bomb (was it?) Bosnia, without any forewarning or Comgressional debate whatsoever.
President Bush is as honorable of a President as they come.
PAY IT FORWARD
I have heard rumors that there were still Americans out there who still liked / approved of Bush, in spite of all evidence of his wrongdoing, and illegal moves...
I find this to be totally unbelievable...sincerely, I do.
If you have read the real newspapers, and watched the real news, you can't possibly still buy in to the Dubya BS partyline?

He has a legacy to leave behind. He has to continue to divide everyone in order to conquer the world! Yea right!
This guy! He wasn't elected the first time, lied about the war to get reelected and now has his good buddy Rove out trying to rewrite history which is hysterical in and of itself!
Thank God we only have 11 more months before a NEW President will be elected. Of course, after that I a certain Bush will try to attack England and Australia because they pulled all their troops out of Bush's war!
Yea, Bush, go attack England and Australia...all by your own little lonesome because no one gives a crap what you do anymore.
You are a nobody, Mr. Bush. A nobody. Always were always will be you little runt from
Texas.
