This is a very cute children's cookbook. On the back it says for ages
4 and up. This one belongs to my 7 year old great niece, Tesia. She
brought it with her when she stayed all night Sat. Tesia and I read some
of the stories Sat. night and also some of the recipes to see which
ones we had all the ingredients for.
Since we had all the ingredients for the Strawberry Shortcake's
Strawberry Shake and the Ginger Snap's Cookie Bars we decided these were the
ones we'd make. We made the Strawberry Shake Sat. night. It was good
and a bit different since it had honey along with the vanilla ice cream,
milk and frozen strawberries. Sunday morning Tesia wanted to make the
cookie bars, so I helped her make them. They were delicious. She took
half home to share with her Mom and Dad.
Besides recipes the book includes a few stories about Strawberry
Shortcake and her friends, Ginger Snap, Apple Dumplin, Huckleberry Pie,
Blueberry Muffin, Angel Cake and Orange Blossom. Each recipe includes
either Strawberry Shortcake or one of her friends in the name of the
recipe. The book is in colorful pastels with pictures of the characters and
foods, tools etc through out.
There are tips from Strawberry Shortcake thought out the book. In the
beginning are some Berry Important Kitchen Rules and pictures of tools
you may need when making the recipes. There is also a chart with the
notations to look for the Strawberry key on each recipe. One Strawberry
means easy - a child can do most by self, two strawberries means a
little harder - some steps an adult will need to do, and three strawberries
means challenging - an adult and child together. In addition when you
see a yellow strawberry with an ! inside, beside a step in a recipe, it
means things an adult should do. There are three pages of cooking
terms and a page of measuring tips. This is a fun book to read and cook
with children.
