There are many different kinds of tiles which include roofing, floor, ceiling and decorative purposes. Roofing tiles are probably the earliest invented and manufactured for use in houses. These were used to keep out the rain and heat while warding off the cold during the winter season. Eventually, people found uses for them inside the house especially when it was discovered that glazing them can affect their durability and prevent water from permeating them.
Roof tiles are basically those that cover the roof and prevent the elements from entering the house. Floor tiles have long been used on both kitchen and bathroom floors and also sometimes walls since they are not easily permeable by water.
Ceiling tiles are different in structure from the others. This is because they need to be lighter due to the danger of gravity pulling them down.
Decorative tiles are made specifically to decorate and influence an area of the home or office building. These are not the common flat pieces that we usually see but are sometimes full of decorative effects that make an area of the home or office more interesting.
Different countries have different styles of tiles, my personal favorite being Moroccan Tiles from Habibi Interiors; these are still hand made and take many hours to produce enough tiles just to cover one wall. I first found out about them from another Moroccan Tiles site called Drabdavid! Two other tiles sites are Tiles Shop and a new one on Moroccan Mosaic Tiles.
