What was the first chat site you discovered when you discovered the internet?

My first group was a Yahoo Joan Crawford fan site. It has since closed. It was lots of fun. One woman had personal memories and her posts were very moving. They were all so fun to read.

I guess I should answer my own question. :-O

It was a place called the State of Insanity, and it was an insane place, but loads of fun. I don't go there very often anymore, and when I do, very few people recognize me. Most of the people I knew when I first found the place aren't there anymore, so..

the first real site i went to was AOL to sign up, and the ancestry.com to look for family. I found lots!

State of Insanity? I think that was one of my early ones.... I was in several when there was still MSN Chat ("Diabetes" "WeightWatchers" "No Strings Attached"). They started charging money, so I moved over to AIM chat, but they became infested with bots, so I moved over to Yahoo ("50's" & "60's"), but I don't do chat rooms any more. They are all full of people who insist on playing music or doing audio chat, and the sound quality usually sucks, so I don't do chat any more. I met some nice people in those rooms (some in person), and a LOT of jerks!

Jimmie.... there ARE a lot of jerks out there, that is true. I met some wonderful people over the years, and yes, some I actually met in person, but..... it lost its charm for me a long time ago when I wound up with my very own personal online stalker. LOL.

So not worth the energy.

I started out on Prodigy Classic in the Disney chat rooms and moved to AOL's chat rooms with friends. I don't do chats anymore. Too many weirdos. I do have to say though that I have made a lot of great friends from those old chat rooms and we've met up several times over the years.
