This day in age it seem that we are all trying to be frugal in one way or another. My husband and I are saving aluminum cans. As a truck driver he stops at all kinds of places, truck stops, rest areas, business and he picks up anywere from two to three large black trash bags full of cans a week. He brings them home and we crush them in our $24 can crusher. (This was a bit extravagant as far as price, but it is made from metal and can hold six cans. The $20 one was all plastic and only held one can.)
With all the wonderful tips that everyone gives here on Gather about how to live frugally, I decided to see what kind of FREE newsletters I could find on living the frugal life. My favorite one by far right now is called The Frugal Life and can be found at http://www.thefrugallife.com
While looking through the website at all the wonderful ideas and tips they have I came across a way to make money this holdiay season. Now what better way to be able to afford to do all the things you want to do during the holidays than to make a few extra dollars to help you do all that needs to be done?
http://www.thefrugallife.com/money_holiday.html is the section with making money during the holiday season.
Liz Folger suggest that you sell your crafts. It doesn't matter what kind of craft you do, sell it. People will buy your woodworking, bath salts, soaps, wreaths, and other crafts to give as gifts for Christmas and you will make money to spend your own Christmas.
Are you into rubber stamping or scrapbooking? How about making your cards and cards for other people to buy and send out? Once again, handmade items are hot and people will love to buy them and send them out.
If you sew, make T-shirts, swaetshirts, quilts, tote bags, purses and other sewn items. If you can sew, you can make hand sewn Christmas ornaments from Christmas fabric or felt to sell.
If you can not sew, how making some fleece blankets. These are very simple to make. All you need is a piece of fleece big enough for a lap blanket and either scissors or a rotary cutter and either tape or a cutting guide. With these simple tools, you simply cut a fringed edge and then tie the fringe into a knot. You now have made a blanket.
How about writing letters to the kids from Santa? Parents, preferably parents you know or your local school, can give you the letters to Santa from the kids, and you can be "Santa" writing back to them. Kids love getting letters from Santa!
Don't forget your online auctions. www.ebay.com, www.etsy.com, and www.half.com are just a few of the many online auctions where you can sell your items.
Do you bake? If so, how about baking Christmas cookies for your friends and neighbors who don't have the time to do so. They would be glad to pay someone to bake their favorite holiday cookies and cakes to save them time. If you decorate cakes then you can even more money. What about making a gingerbread house for the kids? Parents never seem to have enough time for all these things since most of them work full-time and have other obligations like their children's sports, church, etc. Take advantage of their busy schedule to make a few extra dollars for your holiday.
