Today I got to go on a field trip with my son's class to a local farm. This was the first time I got to go on a field trip with any of the kids, so it was really special to me. We started the day with all the kids in a circle. The farm workers brought different animals around for the kids to pet, including a turkey, a pot-bellied pig, and a sheep. The kids also got to milk a goat, and to bottle-feed another goat.
Next we went to feed some chickens. They must have had at least 10 different species there! I came up with some interesting photos, trying to juggle chick feed in one hand for 2 kids to pick from and the camera in the other and aiming and clicking as best I could! Yes, this mom can multitask.
There was a hayride after that, where we fed the cows in the meadow, who came up to the truck wagon for hay right out of the kids' hands. We saw a pig named Wilbur and a room full of reptiles. They even had unexpected animals like vultures and panthers at this farm!
Before heading for home, the kids played in a maze made out of rolled hay bundles. At that point I was able to leave with my son if I wanted to, but we went and visited the little shop there and he picked out a couple of little things. Then we saw that the other kids had moved on to a petting area, to see animals we'd already petted and seen earlier. So we headed back to see the various breeds of chickens again, and had some time all to ourselves there! That was really a cool way to end the day.
I've already posted a few of the great pictures I captured today. There will be more to come in the next few days. I hope you enjoy them. We had a terrific time making the memories!
