Good Evening Gather,
It is my pleasure to share a short poem with you. Another one of my favorites. Do you remember Sir Walter Scott's warning; "O, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive"? This poem represents the opposite to that oft-remarked axiom. It was written by Horatius Bonar (1808-1889) and simply titled: Be True. Enjoy!
BE TRUE
(a poem by Horatius Bonar)Thou must be true thyself,
If thou the truth wouldst teach;
Thou soul must overflow, if thou
Another’s soul wouldst reach!
It needs the overflow of heart
To give the lips full speech.
Think truly, and thy thoughts
Shall the world’s famine feed;
Speak truly, and each word of thine
Shall be a fruitful seed;
Live truly, and thy life shall be
A great and noble creed.
