Children are curious and Jolene was no exception. She had promised her mother not to scream and the next couple of nights after she made this promise, she had seen the figure on the window shade and was terrified. She had hid herself under the covers and muffled her scream, but every night the figure came back and she grew curious to know what it was. It took a lot of courage, but she started peeking out from beneath her covers and looked at the figure. She heard a voice call her name and this voice was very familiar. She soon realized it was her daddy’s voice and, although she still felt some fear, she started watching the shade and listening to the voice. The figure was motioning for her to come closer and she could hear her daddy say, ‘I want you to join me, so we can be together pumpkin.’ Jolene was too scared to move toward the window shade and yet very much wanted to be with her daddy.
The previous two nights her daddy has said, ‘I still love you very much pumpkin’ and hearing those words had made Jolene feel very happy.
This night was different. Jolene again saw her daddy, but what her daddy said made her very sad. The shadow it seemed was larger than before and she heard her daddy say, ‘You know I love you pumpkin, but I’m going to have to go away next Monday.’ Jolene was in tears and said, ‘No daddy. Please don’t go.’ There was a moment of silence as Jolene sobbed and her daddy said, ‘I’ll always love you, but we can be together, if you wish. Just come to the window shade and touch my hand.’ As Jolene was hesitating and thinking what she should do, Mrs. Parker could no longer resist the urge to get the coin and quickly tore up the floor boards, jerked open the box and held the coin firmly in her hand. She could feel it tingle and again felt a sudden dread come over her. Something was wrong and she knew her daughter was in danger. She rushed into her daughter’s room and saw Jolene standing by the window shade and there was the shadow of a man in the shade. Jolene looked at her momma and said, ‘Daddy wants me to be with him.’ Jolene then touched the window shade.
Mrs. Parker let forth a blood curdling scream and cried ‘No!’ Her daughter had disappeared and now there were two shadows in the window shade. She could hear what sounded like her husband’s and Jolene’s voice say ‘come join us’ as they motioned for her to come near. She then heard her husband say in a clear voice that made her know it was him. “Linda, I love you and I want use to be together forever. Please join us and bring the coin.’ Linda had become catatonic and frozen in place. Throughout the night she had heard the voices of her husband and daughter plead with her to join them, but she couldn’t move and couldn’t speak. The dawning light came and the shadows disappeared. The phone rang and rang, but Mrs. Parker stood there frozen like a statue. The Sheriff was called by Jim telling him he feared something was wrong. The Sheriff sped out to the Parker farmhouse and when no one answered the door, he broke in. He looked around and noticed Jolene’s door was open.
He drew his weapon and silently walked toward the open door and saw Mrs. Parker standing there with a look of horror on her face. He called out, ‘Linda. Linda.’, but there was no response. He walked over to her and could see she was still breathing. He looked around and called out for Jolene, but there was no response. Just then Jim came rushing into the house crying, ‘Are they okay?’ The Sheriff stepped out and told Jim, ’Calm down and be quiet. Linda’s here, but she’s had a bad shock.’ Jim was very agitated and said, “Is Jolene okay?’ The Sheriff said, ’Jolene should be at school.’ Jim said, ’Jolene never showed up at school today.’ The Sheriff was now quite alarmed and he said, ’I’ve got to call for some back up.’ The house and surrounding fields were thoroughly searched, but there was no sign of Jolene. An Amber Alert was posted and Linda, still catatonic was taken to the hospital for evaluation. The doctor found a strange looking coin in her hand. He removed it and put it with her personal belongings. The next Monday, Jim picked up the window shade and drove out to the Parker farmhouse. He told the Sheriff Linda had asked him to replace the old shade. The Sheriff said go ahead. As Jim started to take the old shade down, Mrs. Parker started becoming noticeably agitated to the nurse watching her and then with a blood curdling scream cried, ‘No!’

window and I hope I don't have bad nightdreams about
this horrible thing that happened!!
Dont make us wait until you write the next novel to find out. Goodness dont let us think we have just gotten into the "Dark Tower " series, that never ends. You just have to wait until the publisher gets the next issue published.
Thanks for coming again to my POW article..
and
Speaking about Voodoo dolls. I have one here that looks very much like you. And i've got pins. Long painful ones.
Now please....tell us the rest. Look...we don't even know what the coin is for. There are too many unknowns.
Please relieve us from our anxiety so that we can sleep at nights.
Guess we will have to wait and see! Great story. Seems a departure from your usual writing.
Where is Jolene? Is she coming back or staying with her Daddy?
What will Mrs. Parker do? Go or stay?
Why can't the Daddy go on to heaven?
What did the coin have to do with all of this. If it gets handled the right way will even Mr. Parker come back and this all be a bad dream?
Who is going to save who?
What is the problem with the shade? Are Mr. Parker and Jolene locked inside the shade?
:)
Me - I'm a lover of more tidy endings, if truth be told...
Could you possibly dream up a few more sentences and either have them all three living happily ever after on some ship (like the Flying Dutchman!) till a toad kisses them back to life or something or else find out that Daddy dearest wasn't dead at all - he was only out to get the insurance money and now they can go and live in splendid wealth on some far-away island --- or what ever else you dream of!
It would make me more comfortable in the night!!
