There's nothing quite like an October day,
for it brings back cherished memories...
Memories of my childhood as my sister and me
dressed up in our Halloween costumes
for the neighborhood to see;
We'd make our rounds, pillowcases open wide
and we'd take all of the treats our tummies
could abide.
Ms. Flora gave out cupcakes
and candied apples too!
Her great big house was always
the first house we would go to.
We wore our costumes to school
for everyone to see;
We studied only half a day
and then at the carnival we would play,
with a haunted house and games galore;
With a school day like this,
how could we want for more?
Now I am grown,
October still makes me smile,
for it was in October I gave birth
to my youngest child.
I gave birth to his older sister too
in that month so dear,
and whenever I see the autumn sky
I can't help but shed a tear.
We have raked leaves aplenty
and piled them to the sky;
We have laughed so very hard
as we have jumped so high,
landing on the cushiony mound
laughing in such glee;
Oh, how I love October
and the joy it offers me!
Sometimes I'll go for a walk
under the October sky,
the moon so bright in the night
all I can do is sigh;
I thank God for the life He's given me
and all of the blessings galore;
As golden leaves crunch beneath my feet,
I know I could want for nothing more.

Besides, my birthday is in October!
Andrew...we always carried the pillowcases because they held more candy than the little buckets...lol
