Learn forgiveness, practice forgiveness, teach forgiveness.
When you think you can't forgive, do it anyway. No matter what.
DISCLAIMER: BTW, forgiveness doesn't mean you have to stay with someone who cheats or abuses you - forgive and LEAVE)
Learn tolerance. Practice tolerance. Teach tolerance.
And when you think you cannot tolerate one more belch, fart or dirty sock on the bedroom floor, just remember what he looked like the first time he held his newborn daughter and move on.
Don't get in your bed angry. Even if that means YOU sleep on the couch, then do it.
Something I've learned the last few years of my marriage? Being sexy is important, and looking attractive is important, but that's not going to keep him. Get to know each other SO WELL that you can finish each other's thoughts.... learn everything there is to know about him, and find more...
Don't try to change the other person.
Darling Husband's favorite phrase is "you're right, I'm wrong, I'm sorry."
Every time someone in our family, or a friend gets married, he starts about two weeks before the wedding trying to teach them to say it properly. Everyone thinks its a riot.
Because we quit "working on, and over, the relationship. We now just let ourselves, and each other be happy, and love each other, anyway.
Third one - over 20 years. Compromise. Enjoy each other as each of you are. Love and just be. Sometimes she isn't always right - I know that. Don't tell David's wife!
