Hate scary movies, but I'll never forget the chills I got when watching the original version of "The Haunting of Hill House" (novel by Shirley Jackson). It was in black and white and was way scarier than the recent remake was.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is great. I also always got chills from the urban legend about the escaped inmate with a hook instead of a hand who preys on young couples in cars.

I'm not a fan of the horror genre either, just too much gore for me. I think its the reality base, or maybe because, as a nurse, I see my share of gore in real life..but I like a good monster movie. AVP was a good one, as is the Alien series.

Another non-fan of horror, but I do like Wait Until Dark, Psycho, Vertigo; and was so terrified of The Birds that after all these years I still cringe at masses of pigeons in the city squares.

I love horror, I don't watch too much non-horror fare, I love Night of the Demons, Sole Survivor, Rose Red, In the Mouth of Madness, Event Horizon, See No Evil, The Ring, so many I can't name them all.

My favorite sub-genre of horror is the everyone is trapped in something, a house, a school, a church, a hotel, whatever, and they can't get out and something or one of them is killing them off. The claustraphobic tension is always enjoyable. Doom, Resident Evil (the first), Silent Hill, Assault on Precinct 13, are good films that do that, Mindhunters is a great non-horror film that does it very well.

No scary movies for me, either. If I want "scary", I turn on the 6 o'clock news. Traditional Hallowe'en movies I enjoy are "Hocus Pocus" and "Hallowe'entown". Tonight after the goblins, witches, pirates, Ninja's, Spidermen and clowns have depleted my candy basket, Cindy (my dog) and I will bring out our secret stash of treats and watch "Rocky Horror Picture Show".

The movie that terrified me the most as a child was 2001: A Space Odyssey. . .not a drop of blood or any ghosts; just a surreal, unknowable coldness and fear of the unknown. As an adult, I think I'd have to say Jacob's Ladder tapped into my nightmares and disturbed me.

The silent film "Nosferatu" with Max Schreck is incredibly creepy and disturbing. Also, "Dracula" with Gary Oldman is kinda scary. "The Ring" totally freaked me and my husband out. I only watch intelligent horror flicks. That excludes such 'films' as 'Wrong Turn' and 'the hills have eyes'. I don't like unnecessary gore.
