I found a book at a thrift store the other day: Momilies: As My Mother Used to Say... edited by Michele Slung, Ballantine Books, 1986. It's got all those little Mom-homilies that Moms like to shower their kids with, all put together in one little book, with photos of some well-known Moms of History. It's giving me some chuckles, and I'm checking off the familiar ones. When I'm done, I'm planning on sending it on to my mom and asking her to do the same. Maybe she'll find even more that she heard as a child!

If a thing is worth doing, it's worth doing well.
Everybody has to the best with what he's got.
Everybody makes his own contribution.
Never say never.
Show 'em greatness.
He's no better than you--we all stand up naked inside our clothes.
You're not in competition with anyone but yourself.
Anyone's a fool who doesn't try to live up to his dreams and abilities.
Every time you give up pleasure for duty, you're a stronger person.
Keep all strings a' drawing.
Don't dawdle--quick's the word and sharp's the action!

Do you have a favorite?
Any more you can think of, related to this theme?

"A monkey seems like a deer to his mother"
meaning even a monkey seems beautiful to his mother..
my mother likes musicals so she always sings
"grey skies are going to clear up, put on a happy face"
i like the saying about everyone being naked and no one better then the other.
Thanks for sharing!
Don't judge their half a peck by your bushel basket.
William, I think our brains do a lot with music during our "down time." Somehow things come together when we're not paying attention!
"do as I say. Not as I do."
YOU HAVE IT SO MUCH EASIER THAN I DID AS A CHILD!
