Something won't leave me!

I watched a show last week about death.  This is not the first time for me, but this was different.  Oprah put a special twist on this with Dr. Oz's help.   Their caring struck me in a way like never before.

I am embarrassed to say that most of the people that were dying or faced death had a more positive outlook and were more productive than I am on my best days.  This did teach me something and it left its footprints on my heart as I watched these people, particularly Randy Pausch tell their stories.

I truly admire Professor Pausch and have never met anyone with his spirit.  It does not seem fair that he has been afflicted like this. 

What really struck me was how physically fit and alert he is. 

Though I don't know him, I like many around the world, was touched by his story.  So much so, I was moved to pray for his family and for him.  He has a place in my heart.  I wish there was some way to help him.

I never watch Oprah I don't watch much TV at all but I have worked with the terminally ill and have found most of them to be more upbeat then what most would expect

Nice article. Death is something hard to deal with. We have watched loved ones suffer to the end, knowing they will be in a better place. Some people find so much undone at the end of their lives that they have to complete it. Finish what they think is expected of them. Find Closure. Then, they can finally say their good byes. I didn't watch it, but I have seen death first hand and it can be so hard to accept at times. At other times you know it is what must happen. Death is part of life.

I saw that show and I was touched by Professor Paushe's story. He was so brave, strong, and accepting of his illness and death. I admire this man.

I know what some of you are saying about Oprah. I record it and then erase the episodes I'm not interested in. I really don't like the Hollywood Interviews.

This stood out because it was special and heartfelt. I wonder if he's on any other TV shows. That photo of him was taken Oct. 27th.

In between the "celeb interviews" Oprah has some eye opening shows. I did not see this one, but I bet it was good.

I did see this show, and I was both amazed and impressed with the spirit of both people that were guests. This man was truly a wonderful inspiration for us all...and it is so sad that he won't be around to watch his young children grow up.

I saw it on the web recently. I was simply overwhelmed with both a sense of grief and joy. I almost never forward things to others, but I sent the link to my boyfriend right away. The professor left an amazing gift.

There's just no words for this! It seems to have touched many of you as deeply as it did me. I am glad I can at least pray for him and his family. He made me realize how precious my own life is, even with all the problems every day.

I record Oprah on our DVR and I just got around to watching this show yesterday. I was in tears at the end of his lecture. My husband said he couldn't get it out of his mind either.

David, thanks so much for the article. I usually dont miss oprahs show with Dr. Oz, but am going to download it. Sounds like a very profound man. I have been diagnosed with brain tumor- fatal- 15 years ago- went through brain surgery, and was not supposed to live through it. I have made my peace, and am not afraid of leaving this world for a better one, through this experience I believe my children (who were teenagers then) have learned the same lesson. I am here to tell you there are miracles, and I am one of them. 4 years ago, my surgeon told me he was tired of messing with this thing- asked my opinion, I agreed, he operated (I said my goodbyes to family and friends), and being completely at peace with my decision, went under the knife). When I woke up, I could both see again, and with one month, I could hear again. Am fully functioning today at 60, and running 2 businesses, and feel like a 30 year old! Will keep on praying for all with terminal illness. There are always miracles. Also, I had a huge prayer support group from thousands over the internet--they do work, and so many are answered. I saw that Oprah show and I was moved to tears listening to the Professor talk and then that the main reason he did these talks was for his children to watch it in the future!! I think everyone needs to watch this, this man is truly amazing!!!

I am writing because I sat with my friend and his family last Saturday night, October 27th, and watched him die after a six month struggle with a very agressive form of brain cancer. He was only 49 years old, and had never been sick a day in his life until six months ago when he had a seizure out of the blue. The Drs. did an MRI, expecting that the worse diagnosis would be Epilepsy. Instead it was incurable brain cancer, and he was given 3 months to live. He managed to live 6 months, but no more. I still cannot wrap my mind around his death. I want it to make sense but it doesn't. I want it to have a "higher" meaning but I can't find one. This has been a very difficult week since he died. I have felt lost and scared. A friend once asked me what I would wish for if a Genie granted three wishes. Without hesitating, I said that I would only ask for one thing-faith. With faith everything would be bearable, would make sense, have meaning. But tonight I'm lacking in faith, and therefore nothing makes sense and I feel so alone.
