The How to Cheat in Photoshop Challenge this week is to make Dorothy a witch and The Wicked Witch not. Here's a couple of my entries, not nearly so creative as some of the others, mainly in that I didn't do much else to them besides makeing Dorothy green and Edith Hamilton pink. I used the liquid filter to shorten The Witch's nose and chin and to make Dororthy's nose, chin and ears longer. Liquid is also handy for changing expressions slightly.
I used the color balance tool under the image menu for making the changes, but still had to do much of the recoloring work by hand. For example, the witch's eyes and mouth are red which turns to blue when you change her green skin to orange. Using the quick mask feature is very handy for selecting areas with a lot of variation in color.
I tried desaturating (taking out all color) the image and then coloring over it, but it just didn't look right--just like colorized TV movies. This is ironic because the Wizard of Oz was one of the first full length movies to be shot in color except for the first and last scenes. I got a wig from a halloween shop ad, and distorted and worked with it quite a lot to get it to look right, I am not happy with this one, but it does marginally meet the criteria.
For this one, I started over and put each piece on a separate layer: the Witch's face and hand, her dress, the wig, Dorothy, and the background, which has bee completely cloned from a few pieces of the original. This one was much harder than previous ones as I had to change the background a lot to take out parts that I didn't want.

I tried to make Dorothy bigger and more menacing, and the Witch smaller and more afraid, but that just did'nt work very well. Ah, well, there's always next weei.

Shaunee, thanks for the comments.
Stacie, I have not seen teh play, but I read the book Wicked. I didn't much care for it. I understant that the musical is wonderful, however.
Cori, thanks for dropping by. It's easier to give Dorothy purpble hair than to do mine! I don't have an undo button. (hahaha)
Kelly, JoAnne, Sandra, Christopher thanks for coming by. I like this movie too.
AMAZING
PAY IT FORWARD

;)
Thanks, Z'!
Elsie, I'd be glad to...it's amazing what can be done to hair color, wrinkles, sags and bags...even a frown can be slightly lightened up.
Good luck on your goal today. I certainly hope you make it.
