2007 was a great year for television. It saw the introduction of new programs like "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and saw Ugly Betty become popular enough to be the homecoming queen. When looking back at the year, these are my five favorite television moments from the last year.
1. The end of the Sopranos. This tops my list for two reasons. I wasn't a particular fan of this show, while it was my husband's favorite. (So, I'm glad to see it go.) The ending, with Tony Soprano's screen going blank was, in my opinion, an unexpected classic. I believe he was whacked and, well, his world just went black. My husband has a different theory, as he believes Tony Soprano was invincable. I'll save that for another article.
2. The SuperBowl. (Okay, Lora M., feel free to disagree.) It was nice to see Peyton Manning finally get what he deserved - a national championship and an MVP ring. And it was a pretty good game, too.
3. The end of Survivor: Fiji. In a show that critics claim has gone stale, the end of spring's installment was a treat for fans. Three popular players faced of: the wise You-Man, the strong and loyal Earl, the forermly homeless Dreamz and the never-give-up Cassandra. Earl deserved the title of "Survivor" and he won it in a landslide vote.
4. The ridiculous judge who presided over the Howard Stern-Virgie-Larry Birkhead battle over Anna Nicole's body. While laughable, his antics really made many of us question those who make decisions regarding custody battles, divorces and family court.
5. All the Barry Manilow appearances promoting his "Greatest Hits of the 70s." Okay, you may laugh at this, but I know there's a legion of huge Barry Manilow fans on Gather that will back me up. He looks great, he sounds great and his performance of "Bridge over Troubled Water" on CBS' Early Show just about brought me to tears.
Okay, these are just my opinions. Feel free to share your own moments or create your own list for my new "Best of 2007" list.
