Somehow I have found myself in this strange place.
I don't know how I've come to be here.
I miss my family terribly.
I know they miss me.
I don't know how I've come to be here.
I miss my family terribly.
I know they miss me.
I'm confused.
If I could speak,
I'd tell these people who care for me,
that this is all a big mistake.
I'd tell them I'm sorry for whatever I've done
to deserve this.
If I could speak,
I'd tell them who I am.
If I could speak,
I'd tell these people who care for me,
that this is all a big mistake.
I'd tell them I'm sorry for whatever I've done
to deserve this.
If I could speak,
I'd tell them who I am.
That I have a name.
I'd tell them about my family,
in hopes it would help in my return.
If I could speak,
I'd tell them how much,
I love my family.
I'd tell them how much,
I need to feel their warm embrace.
To see their smiles and hear their laughter.
To be home.
In my own words,
I'd tell the others of my kind
not to lose hope.
That the people here are our friends
and will do their utmost to find us a home.
If I could speak,
I'd tell these selfless angels,
how much I love them.
I'd thank them for
taking such good care of me.
For keeping me safe.
For keeping my belly full.
For their love.
Home at last.
If I could speak,
I'd tell my my guardian angels,
with a wagging tail and eyes so bright,
how happy they have made me.
I'd once again thank them for their selfless love.

I volunteer for the local animal shelter. I had written a couple poems about shelter dogs. My observation/feelings and sent them to some of the other people who work there.
The lady who is in charge of their website really liked them and asked me to write something in the effect of what a dog would say if he could speak. That's what I came up with. She posted it and two others on the site. I was very honored and something I was very proud of.
