"The essence of living is discovering. Indeed, it is the joy of discovery that makes life worth the effort."

Ahhhh… Discovery.
All of a sudden it’s easy to do on Gather.
Last week Gather rolled out the most compelling, addictive, and fascinating search functionality. Have you tried it yet? It is so fun!
When you go to the search box at the top of the screen you can go to the drop down menu and search for articles, images, videos, and groups. But my addiction is with the new people search. Specifically, finding people who like the same stuff I like.
Here are a few examples; everyone who knows me, knows I LOVE Bruce Springsteen. So, the first thing I searched for is fellow Bruce fans. Turns out, there are 237 people on the site who also love The Boss. But, let’s dig a little deeper. 65 of those fans are female, 83 are married, 90 have kids, and they also love U2, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Stephen King, Lost and Italian food. OMG… these people are JUST LIKE ME! So I connected with them and now I have even more friends to help me dissect and analyze the new “Magic” CD.
But that’s just the beginning. Then I searched for people who attended good ol’ Natick High School. I was sure I was the only former Redman on Gather… but I was wrong! There are actually eight other Gather members who also went to NHS. Needless to say, we are reconnecting and catching up.
It’s now so easy to connect with people who share your interests and passions on Gather, and also find those who have a differing point of view. If you want to make new, relevant connections, the first thing you’ll want to do is make sure your profile is current. Share only what you want to share. All categories are optional and you choose who gets to see what. Just remember, if you want your long lost high school friends to find you on Gather, you have to make your profile viewable by everyone.
Now… go on out there and play with people search! I know you’ll have a rich weekend of discovery!

Thanks Pam for all the work you all have put into making gather a better place to be.
A couple of my High School connections were outdated too... but I sent them a quick Gather email and they responded! Sometimes, it's the real-world connection that makes the difference!
My one complaint, which I have voiced to the Gather help section (and heard nothing back whatsoever) is that my income level is showing, even though I requested that it not be shown. Can you help fix this?
Other than that, I think the change is pretty intriguing, and I will surely be using it more and more.
I will check it out though. :D
Ten unsolicited points from the world's worst connection. Merry whatever you celebrate!
