A Letter to the Editor in yesterday's Sioux City Journal:
In the wake of Congressman Steve King speaking out against SCHIP and President Bush's veto of the bill, I believe it is time to elect a president who gets results across the board, especially in terms of children's care.
Connecticut senator and Democratic presidential candidate Chris Dodd is the man for the job. As an advocate for children and families, Chris Dodd is a man who knows how to get the job done. He worked tirelessly through two presidential vetoes to pass the Family and Medical Leave Act which helps roughly 50 million Americans in times if sickness and need. He has come to be known as the "Children's Senator" by his colleagues in the United States Senate for his landmark child care legislation for forming the first Children's Caucus in the Senate and for his extensive work with the Head Start program (for which he was named the Head Start Senator of the Decade).
It is time for our country to move forward. The only way we can do that is by electing a president who will care for children and their families. President Bush and Congressman King have been impediments to accomplishing what is necessary for American families to grow healthily. That is why I am pledging my support for Chris Dodd for president . It is time to elect a person who has gotten results to take our country forward.
