My mom always rubbed bourbon on our gums when were were teething.
Rubbing whiskey on the baby's gums is a folk remedy that's been around forever.

This is an age old remedy. My mom used it on me, and I used it on my son. It definitely works!

Well, feeding whiskey to kids in a bottle is a mite different than swabbing their gums, what an idiot! She said she did it because the child had a bad night and couldn't sleep because of her teeth...some parents are anal retentive and should be sterilized.

Parents rubbed liquor on babies teeth, many have done this for many years, I think most of us had this done to us as children.

My mom rubbed alcohol on our gums too when we were teething. When my niece was teething, all she had in the cupboard was some cherry liquer, so she used that. It must have tasted pretty good, because when Kimmy's teeth started acting up again and she saw Grandma pick up the bottle of cherry liquer, she opened wide!

I was raised on Bourbon for teething pains, but never in our bottles.........

I know about the rubbing of whiskey on the gums, but I was in total attonishment ofver the fact that it was put into the baby's bottle.

I will have to look into these teething tablets asap, with a granddaughter who is going to be teething soon, we are going to need these.

I used those over the counter ones as well and I used the whiskey on the gums, just never the whiskey in the bottle method.

we are in total agreement, I don't drink whiskey, much less shots, but that did seem like an awful lot esp for an infant.

I used crushed ice tied in a cloth with a few drops of bourbon on it. This remedy was passed down in our family for many years. It works great and it's not going to turn your baby into an alcoholic.

My step father put whiskey on his finger and rubbed it on the babies gums..

That's a good idea. I will have to remember that when my granddaughter starts teething and you are right, we won't turn the kids into alcoholics.

that method seems so much safer than putting the alcohol into the baby's bottle. I remember when my kids were teething, I would have given anything to be able to relieve thier pains.

I can top this....a girl in the next county just went on trail for rolling her baby's pacifier in meth to get it to go back to sleep. The infant died.

Rubbing the gums is one thing (though I'm not sure I would do it myself), but in the bottle? Sheesh.

I feel the same way. I know my parents rubbed whiskey on my gums and I turned out alright, but now adays so much more is known and new methods of controlling teething pains has been developed.

My mom rubbed whiskey on our gums for teething. When we got older we got plain asprin of course we drank out of our glasses made of lead.

My gums were rubbed with whiskey as well and I am sure that I too drank out of glasses made of lead, but there's a difference to accidently exposing a child to lead via a drinking glass and giving an infant a shot glass of whiskey in the baby bottle.

I have heard about rubbing whiskey or whatnot on babies gums but I never felt comfortable doing it. We've never had it in the house though anyway so I would have had to purposely bought a bottle to do it.

I can't image putting whiskey in babies bottle though! That's horrible.

I got bourbon in my milk to make me sleep and i can also remembe drinking coffee from a bottle. I woudl not do that now, and neither would my mom, but we were bothso much younger then.

Rubbing a drop on is OK. Any amount that can be swallowed is crazy.
